Hi everyone

I just joined the forum yesterday and wanted to let you all know a little bit about me and my horse.

I am 45 (yikes that sounds so old) married lady (I use the term very loosely) with 3 kids (22,20,18).

I started riding at the tender age of 9 when a very kind neighbour allowed me to learn to ride on their pony. I remember not being able to get the styrups short enough and therefore always had to ride without any until I grew a bit! When I got to 15 I kind of stopped riding for a few years until I was in my early 30's when I had a few lessons but again stopped (due to becoming a single mum when my ex left me for a younger model!).

Last year a colleague, who owns her own horse, convinced me to start riding again which I did and then things kind of snowballed from there. I quickly realised how much I missed not only riding but being around horses and when 4 months ago one of the horses at the stable I go to came up for sale I just could not resist.

I bought my beautiful Bess - she is a bay cob 14.2 aged 9. She was originally bought from travellers and has had 2 foals in the past and has been driven. The riding school only used her about twice a week and she has never really thrived there as they thought she ideally needed one to one.

Since I have bought her she has changed so much that some people don't even recognise her. We have started jumping we won 2nd place at a recent event and also are working really hard on schooling. I am of course a novice but am learning all the time and getting and taking lots of advice from others.

Bess is the love of my life, she has already brought me so much happiness and joy that it is honestly hard to put into words. After a hard day at work going and seeing her is the best therapy in the world and I thank my lucky stars for sending her my way.

Anyways just wanted to share and perhaps you guys could tell me a little about you?

Hugs

Boo x

Hi Welcome to the forum.

I think we all take for granted that our horses are there so it is nice to be reminded just how lucky we are.

I am 34 years old married with no kids (that the way i like it) I have a 12 year old 18hh Irish sports horse and have had him for 6 years now. I do local level dressage and have done some hunter classes. We are working on our jumping because he is very good at it but i keep falling off.

I also have an 18 year old 16.2 ID x TB mare which i have owned for 16 years now i let a lady have her on loan on our yard and they both enjoy pleasure riding.

Keep enjoying your horse, they really are the best stress reliever I know in fact they should be available on the NHS.

Hello and welcome! I'm another later returnee to riding aged 48, married 1 daughter. I rode in my teens whenever I could scrimp enough money for a lesson or if the kind hearted owner of the stables let me have one (I used to walk 4 miles there and spend the whole day doing chores in the hope..!).
Not ridden for years and years but daughter has been riding for 6 years and has a loan Welsh SecA. Gradually I have somehow agreed to a few lessons - I think the plan is I'll get a companion horsie - daughter will need something bigger next year as her feet sometimes knock poles if she jumps over 2ft 6 (aged 10 but height of 12-13 year old). So this week I went on a hack and cantered for the first time for getting on for 25-30 years or so, and doubled the number of jumps I've ever jumped - we popped a few 9" ones back in the field - I just followed, the horsie I was on was great but I must've looked so unelegant.

It's great fun though isn't it?!

Hi, what a lovely story! I had horses when I was living at home and rode at every opportunity I could. Then when my Dad and step mum split up had to give up my pony as we moved to Birmingham and had to get my first job after doing my GCSE's. I knew it was the worst thing I ever did and vowed to get another horse one day when things were right financially etc.
Some many years later after meeting my now husband and getting a house etc I finally got my opportunity when we moved to Derbys and I could rent a field from a farmer. I was 17 when I gave up horses and 28 when I got my wonderful Welsh Sec D.
The learning curve was steep looking after a horse after so long and when I had my horse in childhood I had the help and advice of parents to turn too!!
When I got my lad he was not ideal after such a break from horses...a 5 year old who was scared of life and everything that moved, coupled with a bolshy attitude due to not understanding and having got away with murder previously!
We have had our ups and downs along the way and many a person telling me he is worth nothing more than being in cat food tins!!!! Yes believe it, it is true!
But we have a wonderful relationship now and he is a happy, settled fella with a huge personality and cheeky character to keep me on my toes!
I could not be without him at all and look forward to seeing him when I get up in the morning and on my way home from work.

Welcome to the mad house!! You'll love it here, and will soon become as addicted as we all are!!

I live in Essex, and don't have my own horse, but help school a young RS horse (the one in my siggy) which I plan to buy soon, once my "Horlicks Fund" is full!
I use to work with horses about 8 yrs ago, but now its a hobbie, and I love it so much! I love Horlicks so much!!

If you have questions, no matter how silly it sounds, there will be at least one person, if not more, willing to help you out on here!!

Have fun, and more piccys of Bess please!!

Lippy x
