Hi folks, I need some guidance on bits. there is just so blumming many!! I have a cob mare who is early in her education. she likes to put her tongue over her bit whenever she has chance and chomps and chews the bit something cronic. She is currently in a single jointed hanging cheek (this is the bridle she came in). She is NOT strong and she doesn't try to tank off or anything of the sort. I was thinking maybe a French link eggbutt...... what do you guys think? Am I thinking completely in the wrong direction for my girlie? thanks in advance x

A french link would be the best choice to try first, an eggbutt would keep the bit more still than a loose ring or a bit with fixed cheeks for more stability and to help a little with steering.
She may still be teething, if young, so have her teeth checked regularly just to make sure they are not giving her reason to be fussy, also sometimes adjusting the bit up or down a hole can make a difference to their comfort if too low it is easy for the tongue to go over and the hanging cheek bits are often put too low as they can be tight against the face at the top where the cheekpiece attaches .
