Looking for some help/ideas/ past experiences please everyone

Cut a long story short. My mare, tb, ex ptp, small soft mouth, ridden in jointed eggbut. She has always been very good & stoppable! .... until last weekend

We were cantering along and as i asked for a wooowww i had no response, so gave a little pull, and still nothing. She cheekily swung her head to avoid the rein and tugged me around this corner (open corner) so no worries about mowing anyone over ;). She didnt feel totally out of controll and she didnt tank flat out.

When we ride we do alternate where we go and dont always canter/gallop in the same places so they dont get too clever!! i like to confise them :p

So i am considering a differnt bit incase this happens again on a ride. My considerations are ... Dr Bristol Sweet Iron , Tom Thomb Sweet iron and Wonder Bit Sweet Iron. 1st two i have heard of last one, never heard of.

Now she can be sensitive and when one thing upsets her, shes  for the rest of the day!

I welcome suggestions!

i do agree training may be more of the answer however if you'd like advice on bits none of above there is quite a big step between a bit your using and those. i find my ex racer goes well in hanging cheek French link gives me little more than normal snaffle without being too harsh or try jointed hanging cheek. personally though those bits u mentioned i wouldn't bother with as its quite a step needing a little more or overbitting hope that helps :)

training wise id practice your transitions plenty of walk trot trot walk and odd canter to trot etc. just basically making sure she stops when u ask try doing transitions within gait too so a forward trot to a slower collected trot etc. im sure she just got excited and hopefully one off but o would say the hanging cheek helped my boy loads just gave me that little more as he got stronger and.more powerful he'd raced 85 times and was incredibly responsive but just gave me a little more if i needed it so should.be good for your mare i hope. also if she's in a jointed snaffle now id stick with that and get hanging cheek version so not.major change to the feel in her mouth. hope that helps

My girl stops better in a rope halter than she does in a bit. She is more relaxed and so am I. She has just started to collect naturally and we dont have to fight the whole ride. I know that if she does run off and the adrenalin sets in then the 'one rein stop' is always there to save the day. Could be worth trying? There are a couple of vids on youtube that show how well a horse responds in a bridle and then how well they go in a bitless. Im not trying to get you to convert, its just worth pondering over maybe?

Thanks both, both useful suggestions! thats just it she never gives me trouble but made me think. if it happens again and there is someone arouund the corner etc i want that back up there if i need it. Hopefully i wont!
