Last Sunday I tried out a mullen mouth pelham on him when I was riding at a friends place (they have over 200 acres of land, and there are a few cross-country fences such as rollers, coffins etc. scattered around, and plenty of natural logs!) and he jumped everything very well, I was really proud of him! I had plenty of control and he seemed quite happy in a pelham as well. I'm going to hunter trials on Sunday with him, I'm doing the PN class on my own, as I just to gain more confidence with him really. He went clear in the novice singles there in April with his previous owner, so I'm not *too* worried... I would have loved to have brought Castle up as well and do the novice, but he has lost two shoes and my farrier hasn't been answering his mobile for the past week!

I think I'm going to use the fulmer on Ali on Sunday, as I have good steering with that and I've only ridden him once in the pelham... I probably won't have good brakes with the fulmer, but oh well!

I don't know why you're not using the pelham if he seemed quite happy in it? Brakes are quite an important part of safe XC riding (thats safe for him as well as you....!!!), so if you doubt your ability to fully control him in the fulmer I really think you'd be better off in the pelham. Good luck whichever you decide.
