My mare has, lets say, a few quirks! One of them is during tacking up. As soon as the bridle is anywhere near her head she grabs the bit and puts it in her mouth. She does it really quickly. I really can't decide if she hates it and tries to bite it or wants to get it in quickly and off for a ride? Anyone else's horse do this?

that sounds really handy ;)

Timberland doesn't grab the bit but he opens his mouth and lowers his head for you.
He could teach my big lad a few things about being helpful. :p

My mare would take hold of the noseband of her bridle or headcollar and shake it up and down 3 times. 3 was obviously her lucky number or something because she would take hold of my sleeve and do the same. Always 3. But I would be the first to say that she was weird!

My Arabian gelding will try and grab the halter as it goes over his nose. Interestingly his sire used to do exactly the same thing.

My gelding seemingly takes the bit quite happily, popping it into his own mouth without any encouragement or guidance. But when you go to put the headpiece over his ears he stands up tall so you can't reach... I think this is a little game he likes to play.

In reality I think he probably has a little bit of poll sensitivity from a past incident from pulling back or something, as I can play with his ears no problem. But a nice big padded headpiece and taking our time, he is getting better.
