A bit worried....

Canto didn't eat all of his hay last night - he NEVER leaves anything

He had about a quarter of his hay left this morning.

What do you think? Should I be worried? He seemed ok in himself - dragged me straight past the walker as usual and head went straight down when he got to the field. He didn't appear to have sweated up or anything and his bed was the same as usual.

Maybe he's finally taken my advice and gone on a diet?

just keep an eye on him and if it happens a few mornings in a row then maybe it's something. I'd reckon it's probably just a combination of the warmer weather and having some grass in his belly (if he's turned out during the day).

Thanks JacksmyBoy - he's turned out on pretty good grass all day long, but that doesn't usually stop him polishing off his net followed by half his bed for pudding! I'll keep an eye on him...

My boy wasn't himself this morning, he's out at grass 24/7 now so put it down to eating too much rich grass and being tired. Can't stop worrying though, it's awful when they don't seem themselves. Prob just a bit of a dodgy tummy, don't worry

Yes he'd done a normal amount of poos. He seemed fine other than his haynet - it's just that he's normally such a greedy monster it's odd that he's not scoffed it all. I might try offering it to my other horse later and see if she refuses it too - maybe it smells funny or something

Neither of our boys are touching their haynets at the moment. Both appear normal, are pooing, weeing etc as normal so have put it down to neither of them being hungry. We even ditched the full haynets and refilled from a different bale but no difference.

Hi old neighbour, my boy is normally a greedy sod too but is out at grass from 7 - 5 these days and is not eating anywhere near as much haylage, one net does him all night in fact whereas previously he would have 3 - 4 nets. So long as everything else is normal and you're keeping an eye on him I think even the greedy fat piglets must reach their limit at some point !

Def probably full of grass and also maybe hay just isn't appealing when he knows the grass is out there! Wouldn't worry too much

mine has 2 large nets usually but since being on 6-6 turnout hes hardly getting thru 1 i wouldnt worry too much like u say too much grass they can only take so much lol!

The grass is growing strongly now, so he probably just does not need/want the hay now.

In my old age I have grown to realise that we worry far too much about our horses and ponies - if I had known then, what I know now, etc. etc......
