Will a mare who has run with a stallion but does not get in foal cause a nuisance to the rest of the herd come foaling time.

I had heard that barren mares should have been removed before the foaling season.

thanks

Never heard that, but in KY last week they did keep everything seperate but I think that was more to do with operational organization than anything.

Mine all live together very happily. Sometimes you can get a mare who will try and take another mares foal .

Don't see why - we never remove barren mares at my yard. One in particular is a very good 'aunty' to the babies.

We have had problems where a barren mare has tried to 'steal' another mare's newborn foal, the real mum was frantic - I suppose it depends on the nature of the barren mare really. We never turn out mares with new foals with barren mares for this reason.
