Looking back i think i was slightly insane in going to Bury Farm yesterday for their unaff ODE.
This is our third ODE this year. The other two didn't really go according to plan in the XC so i thought as he has been around the 80cm before here it would be a nice little course to boast our confidence on the 90cm.
So off i toddled to get there for our dressage at 2.38. A quick course walk beforehand (just incase they added anything extra since last time) then got ready for stressage.
Last time here about 2 years ago we got 42
and lately have been around the 36/37 mark so wanted to improve on that. Our first problem was getting charlie in and out of the warm up over the rubber matting
I must have the wussest horse ever, bearing in mind he is 14 and has been competing all his life. He was on his tip toes and not listening much. Got into the other indoor for the test and he settled a bit. The first half felt quite nice, then i thought i heard the judge shout something so looked across as i thought i'd gone wrong but nothing so that slightly lost my concentration for a bit, then as i was doing the walk on a long rein (not his best bit anyway) the next horse came clip clopping round the corner for a charlie to give a very nice giraffe impression and a snort
which proceeded down the center line and a fidgety halt.
Washed him down and cold off for 10mins then went to have a look at the scores and for some reason the judge liked me and gave me 33.5 with some lovely comments

Onto the SJ and i tend to put pressure on myself for this as it's our best phase and we should really go clear most of the time. I haven't jumped him much recently so my eye is a little out but a rode like a sack of potatoes and was holding him too much and burying him. First 2 was fine then my fault at 3 and had it down, 4 and 5 fine, buried him at 6 again but he somehow got his legs behind his ears to clear it then gave myself a kick up the backside and jumped the rest lovely.
I was lieing around 5th after dressage so with the 4 added i was just hoping to stay in the top 10.
Onto the XC. He was ace
Just had a moment when he went from canter to walk to walk over the ditch then hauled himself over the log after it from barely a trot but he was so honest. Came home with such a smile
so clear and inside the time.
After peeling off my jods and washing him and myself down, i went to look at the results. I came 8th
Would have been 3rd if the numpty rider had ridden properly.
So please with my boy. I don't do many ODE so it's nice when one goes right.
I have wagon wheels if you got this far
