confidence is now shot after tonights disastrous attempt at 1m (I could swear it was bigger than that).

I want to go back to 90cms :(
am I able to go HC and do BN if my horse is grade A?

Yes, you can do any class HC as you cannot then get placed or get any prize money. However, if like me you can't cope with paying all that money, to not actually be allowed to win some back, look out for 90cm (and even 80cm) amateur classes. You can compete in these on any grade of horse as long as you are not in the BS top 450 riders.

thanks.
to be honest, I don't care about placing right now.
tonight was absolutely awful and I don't want to wreck his confidence by riding like a numpty because the fence is over a meter.
I panicked and didn't ride forwards to the fence so we were technically eliminated - it took four attempts to get over fence ten :(

ugh, I'm not sure why I bother trying to compete

chin up :) just a bad day! pop round a 90cm or 80cm next time you're out as a boost, you can (as others have said) compete HC in a BN or see if there are any amateur 90cm classes in your area... have a play, nice and relaxed... you'll be back jumping confidently at 1m in no time :)

best of luck!!

I think you are pressuring yourself before your ready, how about unaff whilst you sort downgrading? Good luck it will all work out in the end?

Sorry to hear about your evening. Might it help to call the Scottish BS Devt Officer, Lucy Brindley, and ask her to explain BS Intro shows to you as I think you might still not be clear about your eligibility for classes as small as 70cms on your boy, regardless of his BS grade, at these shows? They should really help you as they are well built and relatively low key yet you have something to aim for with the Intro Regional points and Amateur qualifiers at 90cms and 1m.

Good luck! :)

I'm afraid there's no downgrading of showjumpers allowed in BS.... However, do not despair as there are "intro/amateur" shows with classes from 70cm upwards that you CAN enter on your grade A, without having to go HC. Not sure what Area you're in, but you might find your nearest Accredited BS trainer does lessons/clinics at a show centre which could also be helpful. Good luck anyway.

he's only grade a because he was imported and I couldn't get hold of the uae federation to confirm his winnings.
I've now managed to get hold of the sj secretary who will get back to me, hopefully before the end of the week.

you're right - I need to start having lessons with martin again.
we were jumping 1.20 in April and now I'm riding like an idiot :(

ugh.. I need to get a grip before he goes back to his old ways.

thanks measles - ill ask her.

nr99 - I know we can jump. jerry's had bad experiences at shows in the past and I guess I'm panicking because i'm expecting him to revert to how he was when i first got him (he would refuse to go near certain fences and rear if he felt you were pushing him too far).
we went right back to basics with him - his first show over here was 70cms - and its only since april that he's started enjoying himself and wanting to go around the whole course without thinking about stopping.
he was willing to go last night and I only had two stops, both of which were at fences which were heading towards a roller door that was rattling in the wind (we had winds of up to 60mph last night) so I can't really blame him - if I had ridden forwards we would have gotten over them first time.

I'll definately keep doing unaffiliated (last night was) and clear round until I get everything sorted.
I need a good kick up the arse at the moment
