Does anyone with breeds such as hackneys and welsh section Ds find that canter is a hard gait for their pony to achieve?

I have cantered Samba (hackney x welsh) a couple of times now but I feel its just a big effort for her and trot is more comfortable??

Anything I can do to aid this or just accept it or will it come with practice and time. I feel silly asking but she is definately unsure cantering even in open spaces. Just tends to walk, trot or gallop in the field not really a cantering pony.

Hi,

I have the same breed of horse and canter has been the most I have had to work on. His trot is perfect.

First my boy wouldnt pick up the right canter lead, he was very umbalanced and felt very odd, with time he now does this perfectly.

I now have to get the control which I havent been working on as much as I wanted to get the right lead before sorting out the speed.

It will come in time. I am now at this stage and it still feels rather uncomfortable compaired with trot. I think its the hackney front legs that makes it feel unusual, its very flashy and bouncy.

I will watch this to see if I can get ay tips :D
