Hi Everyone!
I've joined the forum to start making some contacts in preparation for a million questions I will likely have in the upcoming months!
I'm currently living in Ontario, Canada, but I am planning on moving to Hertfordshire in September, and will be bringing my lovely horse over in late October (plus or minus a month) after I've settled in and found a livery yard I like. I'm a high school teacher (English and history) and I'm in the process of working with a teaching agency to make the move. I was born in the UK and have family and friends in Hertfordshire, so I'm hoping it all works out with getting a teaching contract there. Ideally in Welwyn!
My horse is named The Great Gatsby. I've owned him for 3 years now and have done all the training, which has been a blast. He's a Clydesdale/Thoroughbred. He has many health issues. He got recurrent uveitis at 2, and he got cyclosporine implants inserted into the back of his eyes to help stop the flare ups, which were happening every 2 weeks, poor man! The implants worked really well, though his vision is affected. He's got partial vision in one eye, and the other is fairly good. I've been riding him with a blindfold over one eye for a year because he spooks without it, and it's helped us build a lot of trust. He hacks out alone, we go to dressage shows alone, he's marvellous! Love him to bits! I think he'll like living in England, as the climate will suit him more than Canada. He does not like our extreme heat and humidity all summer! He's much more fond of the winter.
Looking forward to learning about English horse keeping and all the differences through this forum!
