Hi my mare was kicked on the off side fore leg and chipped her cannon bone, it happened about 3 months ago now and has been having regular x-rays and check ups etc. She can be ridden in walk only, and lunged now which i do about 5 times a week. Shes slowly getting there, and the vet has said it hasn't caused any long term damaged. Its just that tonight i bought her in from the field and she didnt seem 100% on it, i checked her in trot & was sound but the lump itself seemed as if had cracked

(didnt feel like it normally does) I just feel a little concerned about it!!!! I'm going to speak to my vet first thing tommorrow so get some advice. She has another scan booked in 2 weeks so see how it is healing (which i was hoping for the all clear) Just wondering if anyone has had the same experience and did it cause any long term damage etc. Thanks in advance

Was it fractured or chipped???? Very different things I would have thought!!

I would not think that it would have spontaniously fractured after three months, but if it had, surely she would be hopping lame, not just not 100%

Ive just experienced similiar with two splints one of which was a definite kick injury. We had xrays and there was a fracture so he has had 16 weeks off.I found a product from global herbs called strong bone unfortunately it was at the end of rest period but it is supposed to aid the healing process for bones so I have been using it .It has limestone calcium and herbs to help heal and maintain strong bones. It might be beneficial to your mare.
