Well, after a hopeless few days when Henry went on sit-down strike in the heat, we are back in business:D He was so good on Saturday training, on Sunday I was really testing him by throwing into really thick cover (right up to chest height on me - I would never have found it again!) and he really persevered, found it every time and brought it back begging for another go. Then we did some more this evening and he was really up for it, really enthusiastic, even with some fairly testing retrieves (waiting until he was out ahead, chucking the dummy out far to the side then sending him off under fences to get it):) We are now starting to learn proper quartering, which he does naturally already, but now he will need to learn to do it on cue, not just when he fancies it:rolleyes:

I on the other hand have cut my foot open, by training on a stubble field in flip flops - ouch!:o

Sorry, I know that's entirely boring to one and all, but I am very pleased with him:D

Our lovely trainer says I should plan on taking him to a shoot on the lead at the start of the season so he can see what it's all about, and maybe try one retrieve at the end of the day if the gamekeeper will let us (will have to flutter my eyelashes very nicely) then take him out properly in January or February:)

Mind you, we have the not insubstantial hurdle of teaching him to retrieve feather without eating it first:eek::rolleyes:

Am going to mention it to a lady at work who works her dogs, or otherwise I may be asking for help off your mum KH, as the nobs people round here have not been great so far!

Well done Spudlet and Henry!!:cool::D:D:D

If you want him to practise on various dead feathered things bring him for walk round the fields here with my two - always plenty of dead things around for practise (my two just eat them.....:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:)

As for your feet - ouchies!!:eek: I have a labrador who is partial to a flip flop if he can be off assisstance.......;):D

Yay for Henry - most impressive :)

I'm picturing you on a shoot now wearing plus fours and flip flops! with Henry pretending he belongs to someone else :D
