Just been to buy 10 more bales from the farmer - really didn't think I'd still be feeding hay at the start of June but there you go. He has all but run out so I have now pre ordered some of his new stuff BUT what's the general opinion on how long it needs to be stored before I can feed it? I'm thinking minimum 6 weeks but advice welcome, thanks.

Also, there was a post on here the other day about storing hay in a trailer - it's something I'd like to do to free up a stable, but can anyone tell me how many bales you can fit into one?

Thanks all!

You can roughly get 40 bales in to a 505, and I have feed hay from the day it was baled with no ill effects. You just have to be careful as it is very rich, it depends what sort of horse you are feeding it to. At the time I was feeding it to and underweight TB. 6 weeks is the general rule of thumb.

We have fed ours straightaway before to our non laminitic (sp) horses- never had a problem in 20 years!

Edited to say, we make our own hay so know it has been well made.
