Hi guys, just wondering if anyone could answer a couple of towing questions for me?

I've had a look at the prices of some two day courses for the trailer test. They're a bit out of my price range (poor student :p), so I was wondering if it would be cheaper to teach myself and maybe have one or two lessons afterwards to check I'm doing it all to standard, or would a course be cheaper in the long run? Has anyone successfully taught themselves from the beginning?

The other problem I'm having is that our towing car is an automatic so if I did the test in this would I only be covered for driving an automatic while towing?

I could use my car and get a detachable tow bar for it, but would I be able to do the test with it?

Sorry for all the questions!

As far as I know if you do the test in an auto you can only use an auto.
Is the correct answer :)

You can do the B+E test in any vehicle and trailer set up that meets the DSA B+E TEST AND VEHICLE/TRAILER REQUIREMENTS

Post number 1000 in the HHO TOWING CLINIC (link below) gives more info on the B+E test etc

If you are looking for a B+E trainer in the Oxford area then I suggest JLD driver training

If you do choose them then tell big Dave the owner that I said Hi

If you can do the reversing and uncoupling as well as give a good safe road drive already then its possible they will do some training in the morning so you get used to their set up with test in the afternoon of the same day which will keep costs down
