i thought I'd tell a story,in fact it is so true,
About the silly thing my owner tries to do,
She puts me in a stable, with a giant net of hay,
and hopes it keeps me happy for the rest of the day!
As I am a Clydesdale, I eat my hay quite fast,
even if she filled 3 nets I'm sure it wouldnt last!
Then she brings me dinner, in a silly purple bowl,
and on the top, an apple - cus I can eat them whole!
When the foods all gone I stand, she really must be thick,
-isnt it obvious that now I need my lick?
So yes, she takes the lid off, and puts it on the floor,
and I can lick my minty treat - there's always room for more!
Then I have my rug on, a giant purple coat,
-doesnt she know I'm happy looking like a mountain goat?!
Out into the fields, a carrot at the gate,
I'll see her in the morning -please dont be late!

As I have the mouth the size of a car
my mum puts my stuff in a haybar.
Although I do look a bit of a lump
my favorite thing to do is go for a jump.
My brother's name is Stinky, and yes he does pong
but he is a lovely chap and grooms me all day long.

Farra Clydesdale, poet and large hairy beast xxx

Ha!! both of them are Hovis to a T.
In answer to "do they jump" - oh YES!! Hovis jumps like a stag (with or without me on board!!). My instructor has said he might bsja...............but not with me riding him!!!

Old Cairo adored his jumping and did tiny ones until nearly the end.

Farra - well she is a SJ in a big hairy body. If you leave jumps up in the school, she goes over them by herself. When riding, if a jump is up, she gently tries to steer over to it.

Cairo was the 2'3 local SJ champion one year - much to the amazement of many - rarely the fastest but always did two double clears.

Farra makes her SJ debut this month in the 2' class - I think she will love it - she is not keen on schooling, hence we put a jump up and reward her with going over it in the schooling session.

Cairo doing XC - was featured on front cover of northern horse mag.

Farra is 51/2 and we started doing small jumps this year - still rather clumsy but HPF has a big arena so we should be ok.

Cairo was 16.3 and for a big lad could do the most amazing turns which made up for the lack of speed. Farra is the same height and is also very agile - without the rider but it will come.

i know of a clydesdale x (not sure what with) that jumps against us in up to 1m30 classes and he is fab!!! really goregous and he can really jump

Just noticed, is your girl a blue sabino? Andy really wanted a blue sabino mare when we looked for a new one but they are like hen's teeth.

I have yet to see another 4 year old sabino mare that was backed since we found her August 2008.

Clyde x TBs made super SJ and hunters and 3/4 TB x clydes are great eventers. Clydes have a very powerful backside - Cairo's jump was every bit as powerful as my Hann x TBs, albeit not as high.

Cairo did a bit of everything - XC, SJ, dressage and was the most wonderful hack with his huge western saddle. The plan is for Farra to be the same.

My friends horse is an 18hh Clydesdale x TB and he has bloodhounded for years he jumps like an absolute stag, sometimes jumping his owner clean out of the saddle! He regularly showjumps over 1m 20+ too! He's amazing!

Great poems

Clydesdales and their xs are brilliant at jumping and seem to enjoy it too.

I have a clydey x who is not allowed to jump anymore, but I cant ride him in the school with jumps up as he carts me into them.
