Hi horse lovers
I have been riding off an on since I was 7 years old. I was last riding regularly 2 years ago, trying my hand at dressage and was starting to be able to manage a half decent leg yield/shoulder in/turn on the forehand/walk canter transitions... etc. That was when I was in Dubai and when we moved to London, I was excited about what I thought would be endless horsey opportunities.
Last year I fell ill with cancer and one of my goals was if I got well was to get back in the saddle again. Not ever owning a horse turned out to be one of my biggest life regrets once I had time to reflect. Now I am close to beating this illness, owning a horse may still be a far away dream (livery prices in London look scarey), however for now I am now just looking for a decent place to start riding again. Looking for some fairly nice horses to ride with sensible instruction.
So far I have been surprised with the poor quality of horses that seem to populate the riding schools in my area. Honestly, I m not a big fan of cobs (they hardly seem to be the most forward of horses...) and they seem to be the riding school horse of choice.
Do anyone know of a place where a rider like me can get back into dressage and hopefully start entering competitions...but is accessible from South East London/Crystal Palace area. I think a 45 min drive would be doable, but so far havent found a centre that meets my needs! (centres I have tried and was not impressed with were Dulwich...very poor instruction , Longshaw..not great facilities, chessington...seemed to be full of cob type horses as well...am I being too picky??)
Every hopeful..... thanks in advance for any advice! xx
