Have noticed recently that alot of posts have been about bad livery yards, petty arguments and rules that are at them. So I am going to change the perspective slightly and talk about the fantastic livery yard that I am out - because yes there are some amazing one out there and although they may not be cheap or that close to home they are well worth it!!

I have had my fair share of bad liveries where myself and my horse were unhappy all of which were in a 10min drive from home. The last decision to move yards was the best that I ever made. My livery yard is now 30mins drive from home - yes this is a long way and alot of petrol but for the happiness of my horse and myself it is more than worth it. Yes there are rules and it is not cheap but this is due to the fact that the YO (fabtastic women) has taken out the proper insurabnce and is a registered livery yard (and not a riding school) but none of these get in the way and all runs smoothly.

yes we have had a few dodgy people there but they have soon moved on without any mass arguments or upsets (everybody tolerates one another). There are now 3 of us liveries and the yard owner. In total we have 8 horses all of which are very happy.

At this yard my mare is calm and relaxed, she doesnt get upset of she is the only one on the yard, she doesnt constantly spook or have weird 'welshy' moments as I like to call them. She is happy and looking and doing fantastically well for it. She is a completely different horse from the one i bought 4 years before I moved her there - i knew she had it in her somewhere!!!

long post i know, but not all livery yards are awful or a pain some are very well run and fantastic to be at. Thank you to my YO for making myself and Teqi very happy!! (3 years there and counting)

Well I'm with you - my livery is fab too - and it's only 3 mins walk from home!

There is the YO and her partner, her mum lives there too and we have a great YM.

there are only 10 horses - 3 belong to the YO, 1 to the YM's daughter, I have 2, 2 other liveries with horses ridden regularly and 2 liveries we never see with retired horses.

The yard is well run - we don't see alot of the other liveries and no-one gets on anyone's nerves. We have an outside arena to use. YO and me and my daughter are the only ones who use it, so no queing or booking. the hacking is great, I can store my trailer there.

Although on DIY livery, I can ask the YM to do things for a small extra cost, for instance bring in and supervise for the farrier if I am at work, or bring in during the winter, give the extra lunchtime feed my duaghter's hunting horse needs in the depths of winter but I cannot give cos I am at work.

So, for all the moaning on here about awful livery yards - here is another great one.

mine sounds very similar!!

lovely sand school with dressage mirrors and jumps, great hacking, a YO thet is always there to help, friendly other liveries and my YO is married to my vet which is very much an added bonus!!!!!

Wellllll..... I'm a YO who just wants to praise their livery really!

We've always been lucky since we started back in 1992, with only one being a total nightmare and glad when she went!

Its so lovely to see a little family really enjoying their ponies and going off to things and coming home with rosettes! Bless 'em, I'm so lucky to have such a nice person as a livery, plus ponies are lovely too!!
