A Dilemma. Help desperatley needed, please.

I have currently got my 3 gelding at a nice yard with amazing turnout and good grazing. Yard has ok facilites but not so good hacking and mainly unfriendly people. However he had to separated from his field companion and it now on his own which he does not like. He is pacing the fence line even though there are other horses next to him So I think I better move him as I think it is unfair to have such a young horse on his own as he is very sociable.

But where to move him to?

I have put my name down on a waiting list for nice yard with amazing hacking/shared good turnout but obviously not sure when a space will come up. The yard is about 5.5 miles from my horse.

Also I have been offered grass livery in a 11 acre field where he could go out with 4 other horses. Only worry would be the winter as he is prone to mud fever and not a good doer. Also that yard is 7 miles from home and 9 miles away from the horse i ride/compete.

Would u do? Leave him at his current yard until a space comes up at the other yard and hopefully he settle on his own? Or just chuck him out at grass livery until next year and hope the winter won't be to bad? There seems to be a lack of nice yards in my area. When he is old enough I don't mind paying part livery but not now. He is already backed and done lots of groundwork. He just needs to mature now as he is about 16.2hh.

I'd take the grass livery until a space comes up for the yard you prefer.

Turn out in big field. You can rug them up and protect heels in winter and keep the hay going in, he will be fine. Check field has natural shelter from wind, that is what is unpleasant to horses.

this, just make sure that you say to the grass livery you are only going to be there until a space becomes available on the other yard - be honest with the grass livery person

Check your allowed to give hay at the grass livery and what others do first. You could get to winter and find your haying all 4 just to keep weight on yours or as a friend of mine found hay wasn't allowed as it caused fights!

Thank you. I will bear that in mind. I was a bit worried about moving him so many times but he is a very confident lad.
