A dog's place is ON THE FLOOR

*Shoots Brighteyes*

My dog knows not to come up on to the furniture without my permission, I am happy for him to sleep on the couch or bed :)

I have a yellow dog and blue furniture and she sheds like you wouldn't believe all year round, no way would she be on the furniture! I spend far too much time vacuuming already(well, any time spent vacuuming is too much, really, such a time-suck!)

Yellow Dog used to be allowed to get on to the furniture but not anymore. I love it - no hair on the bed or chairs! :) He sulked at first but soon got over it when he realised the decision wouldn't be reversed :D

Not in our house. The pleasure of sitting on the sofa in the evening, dog's head resting on my lap, holding a glass of wine in one hand and idly stroking the furry body with the other, is so restful.
All the stresses and demands of the day, drift away, as my faithful, honest companions sleep beside me.

my bedroom is unheated - the bedlington [ & his body heat lol] are a major part of winter survival - much better than a hot water bottle as he retains heat all night:)

Personally I don't believe it's a problem (having spent all night fighting for bed space with my 15yr xbreed) as long as you can get dog off bed when/if you need to. Otherwise it's your personal choice, doesn't bother me if dogs are in/on your bed, inside or outside as long as they are happy and looked after xx

Not the bed, the sofa or any other furniture

Shoot me now... ;) :p :D

I wouldn't shoot you - but my dogs would! LOL. :p;)

I personally wouldn't have big moster sized dogs on the furniture - but my small (well groomed) dogs always have pride of place next to me, wherever that may be - until I tell them to pee off - and they do!

Ours are allowed on the sofa and our bed. They only get on the bed for the odd cuddle or to make us get out of bed, they are happier sleeping in their own beds!

My little border collie lives on the sofa though. She definitely thinks she is a lap dog as well! I did get leather sofas on purpose which makes dog hair no problem at all and easy to give a quick wipe if any other dirt.

I love having them cuddled up with me and my husband does to.

If you have cats as my husband does then I think it is very unfair for the cats to be able to go wherever they like and then only allow the dogs on the floor having to watch a cat in your lap.

Teal would have a fit, hes actually a lap dog in a lab sized body!!!!!!

Mine come up on the bed once in a blue moon (normally if OH out and I know im changing the sheets that day). But they are expected to move as soon as told. The puppy doesnt really like the sofa, he cant spread him self out you see.

My shepherds tend not to get on the furniture , don't think Evie has ever been on there to date, though this may change as we have had a couple of crawl on my knee for a cuddle sessions when I have been feeling down in the last week or so. They don't come on the bed because they don't come upstairs, although Buffy and her mum Chaka did manage to convince my dogsitter once that they went up every morning and jumped on the bed for a cuddle. Our lancashire heeler was always on the sofa with us, and spent evenings on my daughters bed. I think as long as the dog knows to get off when told and you can cope with the mess its not a problem.

Oh absolutely.....

Errrm....not sure they quite got the hang though!!

I agree! I cant stand people who have dogs on the sofa or feed them from their plate or even sleep in the same bed as them! Its disgusting!!!!! I dont have a dog, but dont own one for the very reason that I'm worried that the house will become covered in hairs, I wont be able to get rid of the smell and the garden will be wrecked! Love dogs, just not in the house, EVER! Lol x

Our JRT's are not allowed in the lounge or upstairs, and definately not allowed on the furniture, infact I don't even want dogs jumping up on me. Ok, I'm an old goat but we are on a farm and everything would stink.
Our working collie is kennaled outside and doesn't come in the house at all.

My dog gets to sleep on the bed only when my OH isn't there, she knows when he's there, she sleeps on the floor and doesn't even try to get on the bed.
She also gets to lie on the sofa, and when we go out and leave her home alone, she goes on the dining table and then generally sits on the window sill, smearing my clean windows with her nose! that's something she used to do with her previous owner, just so happens we have a dining table next to the window which she uses to get to the window sill and I'd rather she didn't do it, but what can i do :/
When I had my great dane, she used to park herself on the sofa just like a human, bum on legs off :D She never got on the bed, would've been no room for me if she had :p

Troll? Your house must be so perfect! 'lol' What you doing in AAD if you don't want a dog in your house? If you get one, it will a) ruin your house b) make you forget all rules you ever had for no dogs in certain places.

Big dog gets allowed if the OH is due back at 3 am, for example. Pups have only just been allowed upstairs recently and are learning that they're allowed on the bed if calm.

None of them are allowed on the furniture downstairs but are all lap dogs. :o

The lab is allowed on the sofa providing she`s on the throw, our lurcher bitch has an old quilt on the bedroom floor she sleeps on, she`s banned from the bed because she takes up all the room :D
The boys have their own barn with kennels and straw and an old mattress so they rarely come in the house
Couldnt cope with 5 dogs in the house especially 5 big ones

I have to say i really don't like dogs up on the furniture at all. ours have never been allowed on the sofas. I don't see the need for them to be there when there's all the floor space and their own beds for them. Oh, also what really annoys me is when someone has problems with their dogs with aggression, obedience issues etc and the first thing you see they let the dog do is get up on the sofa/bed etc. I don't think it does dogs any favours as they can then get confused with where they stand as far as pack leader in the house is concerned.

Am definitely one who believes the sofa is for humans and humans only. Maybe some if that is down to me being allergic to dogs so the less hair about the better. Oh, and I wouldn't have cats in a house for the very reason you cannot train them to stay off the furniture!

Of course the skinny mongrel is on the floor- my word, its jolly hot today and the floor is the coolest place to lie on :)
