A Dreaded How Much for a Hairy!

My circumstances are looking mighty shaky at the moment and it might all end in me having to sell my Hairy one :( - So with that in mind, what sort of price do you think I could get for her....

14.3hh black heavyweight cob mare. 15yo this year. She has not done a huge amount, mainly hacking but she could turn her hand to most things. She's not very well schooled but I had her going really nicely last summer before dark winter nights set in.
I would describe her as pretty much bombproof out hacking. She might startle at a bird flying out of a hedge, but she's so rotund that there is no chance of you coming out the side door!:D But she never bats at eyelid at traffic, tractors etc.
She is ridden in a snaffle at all times, she can get a little strong whilst having a good canter/gallop whilst out, but I've never felt I couldn't stop her.
She was only driven until she was 9yo then backed under saddle, so could easily drive again. She is fantastic to lead, load, shoe etc. She occasionally kicks her stable door when your making feeds up but other than that is a dream to own. Never kicks, bites, barges, bucks, rears. Basically she is a star and my dream horse, who I would be lost without:(. I would rather loan her, but just incase needs must, anyone know a rough price??:confused:

I'm only guessing but I would think that her age would restrict her to £1200-£1500? I think that's about what I would be prepared to pay anyway. I really hope it doesn't come to that though as she's totally gorgeous. I would have thought a horse like her would be fairly easy find an excellent loan home for.
 
For anyone that wants a safe hacking/ trecking pony that will go out by herself or stay calm in company (first or last) she is worth a very serious amount of money as she is a safe laid back steady bombproof/spookproof weightcarrying hacking/trecking cob because they are so rare these days and when they come on the market are rapidly snapped up. Someone could get another 15 years of fun hacking out of her so I would say if she passes a vetting then not to let her go for anything less than £3,000.00

Really??:eek: That's a lot! I was thinking more around the £1500 mark, due to her "age" (I say that as I have a 28yo pony, who's more than capable of being a nuisance!), but yes she is certainly very safe for hacking. She's fantastic both in company and by herself, I've never had a moments problem with her.

Binky01 - I'll bear you in mind if I need to loan, although you are a little far away!!:)
 
Nooo, oh i so hope that things pick up soon and you don't have to do this. She is such a pretty girl and sounds perfect.

I'm not sure i would agree with the 3,000 but i would say 1,500 is cheap. So maybe 2k? I'm not a cob person though, so i could be wrong. More than anything i just wanted to say i hope you can manage to keep her x
 
No no nooooooooooo - you must loan !!! I reckon she's worth about £3k too, but don't sell if her if you can find a way - she is gorgeous !! sm x
 
Not sure about value but I know bomb proof horses and worth their weight in gold, regardless of age, and she sounds pretty versatile so I think you could definitely sell her for a good price if needs be.

Seems a lot but, as you say, she is pretty versatile. I haven't done much with her due to lack of transport but she's actually very forward going for a ploddy looking cob. You almost have to drag her in from the field but once your bum hits the saddle she's off, at a power-walk-pace! I'd almost hestitate from saying she's a novice ride, due to her rather quick walk and steam-train-trot (especially on the way home. You can tell she's been driven) but she's such a darling in every other way, that I think anyone with half a horsey brain could ride her.:D
Anyway fingers-crossed that I just might need a loan in future and not a sale :)
 
About £1000 - £1500 in today's climate due to her age. Unfortunately the heavies often don't last as long as some due to their joints (and I speak from experience) and I would be having a 5 stage vetting on that type at that age as often from 15 onwards, joints can start to play up. Cairo went down with low ringbone at 19 and continued in light work until he died at 22. That said, someone just wanting a nice slow steady and very safe type for hacking may pay up to £2,000.

If she were 10, then £2,500 - £3,500. Unfortunately solid traditionals still don't fetch the price of their coloured cousins. I know of some very nice and younger coloured trads, very similar to your girl that just are not selling at the moment.

However, her type are often much sort after to loan/share and maybe this could be an option.

As for price, weight carrying, family cobs are like hens teeth - few and far between, I'd expect to pay £2500 for her - more if she were a little younger.
