No, I didn't buy but...

I have looked at 4 horses now, mostly they seem to be lame or have 'surprise' sarcoids but, yesterday I saw a wonderful horse, in a wonderful yard, with a wonderful person showing me, with wonderful facilities.

The horse wasn't for me because it was a bit bigger and more athletic than my old hips said they were comfortable with, but that is OK as it certainly wasn't a waste of time as it has restored faith in the buying process!

I'm not sure if I am allowed to link to the advert, it is just on FB, not an a paid site, but if anyone wants a 16.1+, 9yo, lovely athletic horse for competition, he was really super. Owner has mostly done hacking and many clinics, but the lady showing (gone to livery yard to sell) had had him to some SJ shows and he was super.

What a refreshing change!

I'm glad you enjoyed the viewing experience, even if the horse proved not to be what you are looking for. I hate going to view a horse only to find that the ad wasn't truthful and I've wasted my time.

You’re buying another?

Yes, Rigsby is staying, of course. But I kind of retired him as I wanted to do more and more, and he would rather be a light hack etc. He is a teenager with loads of previous issues. Friends can come with me, he will be my pair of slippers to hack and play with too. Plus a grand companion (what with him NOT being a rig after all LOL)>

Can you PM me details?

Done. I really think he would suit you. He is on the up, almost ready to go BE now, at the low levels. The trouble is, I am on the way down and he is a proper sports model.

There is a video of him, on the advert, doing a British Novice. There are a couple of things that make him not perfect, but only little things and none of them would have been a deal breaker for me, if only my hips had been blessed with as much movement as his these days!

I'm sort of just waiting for one to appear. I can't really be doing with trawling ads. But one day an ad will pop up on my feed or a friend will tag me and I'll get excited.

I keep singing 'I'll know when my love comes along" from Guys and Dolls :D

"And till then, I shall wait" ... la la la

Now he is sold, I guess it isn't an advert if I say he was being shown by Chloe Pinegar at Manor Farm Stables and Rehab.

I may not have bought the horse, but when I do get one I will (hopefully) be going back there for lessons and to use there facilities. It is not often that, when horse viewing, you stumble across somewhere that is quite local, that is brilliant, that you didn't know about.

They have a lovely arena with steps and water off, and a baby XC course too. I hope to be back with whatever I buy to get going.

I had another super buying experience, again not quite what I was looking for, but my faith is well and truly up there!

Firstly, the horse is supposed to be a WB cross cob, and the video makes him look a little heavy - hence me going to look despite him being a 4yo as I am looking for one that is half sporty, half earthbound.

But, he is a proper sports horse, with only a roman nose and a little fluff at the fetlocks to show for the cob part. Well, that and a sensible outlook, beautifully started.

Also, he is advertised as 15.2, but he is practically wither-less so rides a lot bigger. Proper horse height. I would say he will finish at 16hh once his wither pops up.

I am no longer the bravest rider, but he seemed so laid back I was tempted to mount straight up and go for a hack. The people are lovely, they don't have a school but can hire one if you like him.

I was soooo close to buying, but I don't have a regular hacking companion and I feel he needs company for a while yet, with me he would anyway, in order for his education to continue in the fabulous way it has started.

Again, under 10K. Again, only a couple of little things that would not be deal breakers for me, PM if you wish.

He is close to the A1 near Grantham.

Just a heads up, as the advert makes him look, to me, smaller and less sporty than he is in reality. Would be a pity if someone didn't go and look because they don't want a cob, as he isn't cob at all, a real quality, but sane horse. I recommend!

As I don't have any connection to them, I think I can link to the FB page for his advert...

The owners are Antony Haslam and Louise Taylor.

They do retirement livery too. I have never met them before, but I would have felt safe leaving my horse there. Lovely, relaxed vibe to the place, horses looked well cared for.

Gives you faith in people again!

Yes, I already PMed @Ambers Echo !

If anyone knows of one that may suit me, then please do PM! I am looking for a 'nice' horse. Doesn't have to be a world beater, but capable of dabbling grassroots.

I looked at the above two because the 1st was a 9yo who had been a hacking horse mainly for the previous owner, but was, in reality, a proper up and coming sports model, so not suitable. The second was a half cob, but who was, in reality, also a sports model! It is tricky as I don't want a full cob, but nor do I want an out and out sports model...

Gelding, 15.2 -16.1.

Smart performance horses seems to get some nice amateur's horses in. I've heard good things about trusslers as well. No personal experience of either though

You may regret passing on Mr. Willy!! I’d love to get my hands on that - he will make into a super amateurs horse

He absolutely will!

A few years ago I would have snapped him up, I think the lorry would have been there next day. He was very straightforward, it is just that after the last 2 years from hell, my resilience is low and I want one I KNOW I can manage myself, at home, with limited facilities. In the flesh, Mr Willy is perhaps just a touch more serious a horse than I can do right now.

I have represented myself honestly, that I used to be a handy rider but now am older and more wobbly, and thought both were worth a visit as one was a 9yo happy hacker and the other a half cob, but in reality I found two super competition horses.

The nice thing is, I also found two beautifully run yards that I didn't know about before. One I hope to have lessons in in the future, the other a possible retirement livery, if I need one.

For someone who hates buying, I have had two fabulous experiences, even though I didn't buy.

PS, get yourself down there! I reckon that, correctly produced, he would be worth double this time next year!
