Just thought i would ask a few questions seen as there are a few experts here :D

Firstly - How fit is hunting Fit? Rambo is not fit at all yet and i was wondering if i would be able to get him fit enough to do some later hunts after xmas? What fitness work do you do with yours?

Secondly - He is not a 'kicker' but he is known to buck/bronc if over stimulated! When he hunts he *touch wood* is perfect untill leaving lol, when he plays up as he doesn't seem to want to go home! I put a red ribbon in his tail and stay near the back of the field as much as possible. But is there any tactics i could use to try and stop this habit?

I reckon you can get anything fit in 6 weeks, particulary if not starting completely from scratch. Lots of walking up hills, a miles good walk is supposed to be as good as a miles gallop for muscles -not wind, obviously! As he gets fitter canters up hills, trotting is a bit overrated IMO, particulary on the roads! (I do it loads though, never enough time to walk everywhere!)Interval training you can do in the school for his wind.

Broncing, dunno, I have to sit it too! 'Sit back' my Mum used to yell!!

4 TO 6 weeks is usually enough to get any horse fit for a day's hunting! Plenty of road work, hills and trotting works well.
The best thing to do is bring him home with hounds! Noramlly by the end of the day any horse is ready for home and won't cause you too much prob!

when i got wills back, last season to hunt, he was soooo un fit.. so i guess we worked for about 7weeks b4 going hunting.. but the first week we just did walking and troting, then we went up to canter.. loads of road work up and down hill, then started doing harder work, more troting to build his back end up, then some longer canters, then walkin home.
next week after hacking him out, went in to the school (he hated the school unless we jumped) did some jumping..
thats all i did.. then it was time for sooo good old hunting... and the first hunt he got me off, jumping the hedge wrong! lol..
omg thinking back i was getting both my ponies fit for hunting because my mate was hunting wombat! lol
