This summer I lost my uncle and had a smallish amount of money. I’ve always lived hand to mouth horse wise. What I earn generally go’s out again pretty quickly. Therefore I want to keep a bit back incase.
So I am allowing a small spend on sensible things!!
Ive bought a new sweetitch rug to help my old boy, 2 huge plastic tubs to feed hay in the field (hopefully an investment as I won’t be chucking hay into mud) some needed new bits for my newer pony. (HJ bridle, v excited about that arriving!) a shed for the Shetland so he can have his own bit of under cover space without having to share.
What would you buy to help make horse ownership easier/give more time in a day or just in the long run save money (hay feeders above!)
Have you ever bought anything and just thought I wish I’d got that years ago?

Another wheelbarrow ?
For a while I had the luxury of having one by the field and one on the yard. Saved extra trips/time with poo picking because I turned out and walked back with full wheelbarrow. Then take empty wheelbarrow back when catching in. (Muck heap near stables).
I've got horses on 2 yards now so had to split my wheelbarrows up ??

Thick rubber mats for the stables, they insulate the horses feet from the concrete enabling a warmer bed with a smaller amount of bedding.
Good clippers
hot water shower
and a treat for yourself-
good quality competition clothes for yourself

The good headtorch is a great idea. I no longer keep horses but it is dark now when I get home from work. I use mine for locking up the hens and checking for eggs in the nest boxes. The light also allows me to avoid stepping in dog poo on my way out to the coop. I got mine from Amazon.

The need for more wheelbarrows is always on my mind!
have you seen the price of them these days?!
my first one was free from a builder on a building site job....second one was 100 euro’s, and a large one i want is 250!

To have a wheelbarrow, non-rusting, by every field, is a dreeeaaaaam of mine! ?

Got it all! All would absolutely have been done otherwise!

Crazy money, I’d love a big green 2 wheeler but object to £350 on a wheelbarrow!

An air jacket, I love it, it gives me more confidence when riding and has saved me a few times.
I only really hack and have the odd lessons atm. Probably an overkill.
Safety stuff is a good shout though. I did get some decent safety stirrups which are lovely and could do with a new high viz jacket as mines ancient

I have some headcollars that are over 20 years old! They are rope ones with long lead ropes and they fit anything and everything. They are not everyone's cup of tea of course but they have saved me buying new ones so I reckon they are an excellent investment! Also, a really solid grooming kit box is a good thing to have if it lasts for ages.

I bought a massive, good quality mounting block. It was far too expensive to buy on a whim but with dads money I did. It will last out my riding days and it’s yellow so pleases me!!
This is also a good idea, I made mine out of pallet wood during lock down! It’s a little bit wobbly!

I bought a 2 seater garden bench seat which sits under the overhang of my feed store, with a little money from my late mother.
16 years on, it's still going strong. I use it much of the time (except at present as it's too blooming cold) to sit and have a cuppa after riding, or just watching the fuzzies mooching around. Have even bought a waterproof seat pad for it :)
I also got a native pony weather vane and put this up on the end of one block of stables.
2 x smaller things, but I love having both :)

Ooh and husband bought me for Christmas some fleece lined leggings and jogging bottoms. Leggings fit perfectly under jeans for riding and jobs outside and jogging bottoms are super comfortable and so warm- and I’m really not a jogging bottom type of gal! (They are only the second pair I’ve ever owned!).
Not been cold at all.

Good waterproof over trousers - I love my Just Chaps over trousers, they come in short / regular and long and have shape - really good fit. Wash well.
Lightweight hat with washable lining - recommend Chelsea Air Flow Pro although lots of people recommend Uvex.
Fleecy winter riding leggings and lightweight summer leggings - I love Noble but they no longer sell in the UK although there is some stock remaining sold on FB

Looking for waterproofs at your and @Snow Falcon suggestion I came across the riding tights in stock. I’ve posted a separate thread as I know many people rated and miss them!
