I got into a conversation today about fly masks and a thought occurred - I know a rare occurrence!

A black mesh one would absorb heat and become hot, but also absorb light and be less reflective acting a bit like sunglasses.

A white mesh one reflects heat and keeps cooler but also reflect light causing glare on the eyes.

Which colour did you choose and why?

TBH Ive never given that much thought. I always look for the one that gives the best vision. I currently use a black Equilibrium field midi but have just ordered a white Cashel mask.

Exactly we haven't given it much thought either, hence asking here!

Both of mine are grey.... Have never really thought about it to be honest but if I was a horse I think I would rather white, wouldn't appreciate the sweaty head :p.

I've never thought about that either! Just go for the ones that don't stick in their eyes & stay on them in the field ;)

3 have black ones, 1 has a beige one.

Either, but I am informed , never blue! as they cant see out, somthing to do with the colour receptors in the eye so I am told.

Markie has black because white ones kill cobs! I know this because he told me whilst reversing at high speed! One of his field mates wears a beige one, I may try that on him one day

my friends horse has a black one because she had her eye badly damaged by a lycra hood, she's now light sensitive and only has 25% vision in her left eye which again is much more light sensitive. so she has a black one so she can go out with her friends during daytime and not have to squint :)

I have wondered this too :)

Mine have the black Field Reliefs, with ears. I never find any sweat left by the padded nose and head areas and I like the way that you can adjust them at the poll.

I always make sure that i slide my hand underneath to 'pop out' the parts over the eyes so they dont rub there.

I have actually put one over my own head and wondered how well they can actually see!!. But Im sure they can see ok.

I have used the white Rambo ones in the past. I love the ears on them that flop over at the ends..so cute!!
