After loosing my confidence SJ, I've been doing bits at home and some clear rounds. Tonight, plucked up the courage to go to a comp, went to tack up and realised my lovely clean girth is was still in my car back at the yard

Ran around the venue, but nobody could lend me one or had a spare, very disappointed, went back to the box when a lovely lady came up and loaned me hers, but could only do the clear round as she was doing the first class - at least it was'nt a complete waste of a journey! So then is was mad rush to get tacked up and get in there! Anyway, jumped a lovely clear, she was a good girl!

Gave the nice lady her girth back, walked back to the box, May spooked and my saddle ended up in a huge puddle

Luckliy its not damaged, just muddy!

Well done for going... but silly Lisa forgetting her girth (says the one who forgot her stirrups at a Spencer lesson

)

I'm glad she was a good girl...

What a nightmare!

Actually that's a good reason to have a stud guard, its quite hard to forget something so bulky!

However you have reminded me to put my emergency girth back in the car! Thanks!

Am glad it wasn't a complete waste of time!! There's nothing worse than that sinking feeling...

I once locked all my x country gear in the car once at a ODE inbetween the DR and SJ.
Got it open in time but won't be doing that again in a hurry LOL

She really does seem to be a one person horse, I was expecting the worst after Sunday, but she behaved just as well as she did at Elswick on Friday night.

Opps! I think the mounted police do a jump bareback carrying their saddles (that they have removed whilst in canter) at least they used to 30 years ago maybe Health and Safety have caught up with them...anyway, an idea for next time! (Cheeky smilie here!)

if it's any consolation, i went all the way to Germany for a 3 day and forgot my dressage girth... had a nightmare trying to find one short enough, eventually got a short rock-hard non-elastic one (borrowed from Blyth, lucky me) which my horse absolutely detested.

worst test of her life, i believe.
won't forget anything quite as essential again i hope...

Yes I will be there tomorrow but you have a late time ...I hope I will be eating dinner chez moi by then (I hate late nights at comps and am being very brave to go out after dark at all!

) I need a webcam of Myerscough to watch from my PC (how lazy!). Yes, I have also entered Trec on Sunday (blimey the drugs must be working, 2 comps in a week!) just have to remind pony of the transition needed from elegant dressage pony to brave Trec one - although we had delinquent playing cats to contend with today when I was trying to perfect the test so maybe not a prob. Hope you enjoy the competition!

What is it with girths? Of course it's the essential thing you can't manage without!
Kind Terry Boon lent us his after C forgot all of hers at an event, and considering he needed it himself later that day it was generous, especially when using his girth she later beat him..

I now keep a plastic box in with spare girths, bridle bits, leathers/irons etc. I never want to experience running round a showground ten mins before a test starts pleading with complete strangers for a girth....

It was awful, stood in the Cafe as a last resort, please can anyone lend me a girth!!!

Going to ebay for a spare stud girth today!! I had spare bits, extra bridles, numnahs, boots, rugs - you name it i had everything spare apart from a girth!

I have never forgotten my girth (except the time when I forgot the whole saddle) but I have taken the wrong horse's girth. (Panic phone calls to husband).

My dressage instructor once got to a competition, opened the lorry and realised she had forgotten the horse

!! Not sure how!!!!

When I was a riding school kid (quite a few years ago!!) we tacked a pony up in a rush, legged a child on board, they rode halfway down the drive and went round a corner only for the saddle to go splat on the floor complete with child. Yep, we had tacked up and not put a girth on the saddle.... Oops!!!
