Sorry, forgive the seriously dull post but am having a real battle with the dog hair at the moment. Am not sure if it's because my hoover's giving up the ghost or I just don't hoover enough (daily, sometimes twice daily!) but we seem to be permanently ankle deep in dog hair (ok, that's not literal!).

Can anyone recommend a good dog-hair-sucking hoover? We currently have a dyson animal but the suction seems pretty non existent at the moment, although it used to be very good - we've cleared it and checked all the pipes, there are no blockages. We have 2 pointers and a springer so not the hairiest dogs around. Any recommendations will be very welcome

I have a dyson (not the animal because they give no extra suction, just posh allergy filters- which is ironic because if you were allergic you surely wouldn't have pets?!

Next time we need a vacuum cleaner I will be investing in a Vax (thanks MM

)- they aren't particularly trendy but my friend brought one recently (she has two cats and her Henry wasn't up to the challenge) A few days after getting it she accidentally ran the machine over it's own cable and the suction was strong enough to remove the rubber overlayer

Okay it might have been dangerous but it works for me as evidence of a good vacuum

Mine is a dyson animal and is fine despite being several years old and spending most of it's time removing cat, dog and horse hair from my floors and furniture. Ring dyson and get it serviced. Mine lost it's suck and needed a part replacing. Cheaper than buying a new one.

Do you mean a Dax or a Vax ? I have a Vax which is very good with dog hairs, it sounds like a jumbo jet coming into land but the suction is great, lethal if you go anywhere near boot laces, tends to try and suck up the whole boot

Its not the wet and dry version its just a vacuum the Vax 700 turboforce. Ihave had it a few years and its still going strong.

They completely rebuilt mum's dyson (tis a baby upright one can't remember the model) and gave her a new warranty - hers has to cope with 4 dogs (plus a GSD yard dog who sneaks in when no-ones looking)

When my Dyson gets like that I make hubby take it to the workshop and blast the filters and the cyclone bit with air from the compressor.

Works a treat. Sucks up like new then.
