Just wanted to say how impressed I am at Patsy Day at Stubley Hollow, and all of their team.

My 3 year old has been with them for almost 4 weeks now to be broken in to ride. After visiting last weekend for a hack I am amazed at what a polite, level headed youngster Patsy has produced. My mare went as a bolshy, stressy cob and is now hacking out calmly and forwardly in walk and trot. Patsy had so much time for us when we visited, and continuously updates with pictures and videos.

It's a bit of a useless post but if anybody is thinking of using Stubley Hollow in the future it has my recommendation! I cant wait to have my mare home to continue with her education :)

The only thing I would say is to keep an eye on their new ones - if you look at the paddock layout their "quarantine" paddock is separated by a single fence, where they can touch everything else turned out on the yard. The have had strangles and ringworm in the not so distance past - would be a shame for yours to pick something up.

My maxicob came from Stubley, it is a great place. Patsy is true old school and I would 100% recommend her, there will be no 'quick fixes' done.

She had had some trouble in recruiting and keeping staff with the same high standards as herself in the last few years, (she doesn't suffer fools very well!!), but the current team seems to be great.

Hovis did indeed come from Stubley.

Possibly due to the fact that she was willing to pay people £60/week plus "accommodation" to work 6.5 days a week 7am-6pm and put up with her less-than-pleasant-attitude.

I can't comment on the wages, but I have spent a lot of time on the yard at Stubley, including hanging out with the staff. It was a happy place, with confident, settled horses. Re her 'less-than-pleasant-attitude', I stick to my comment that she doesn't suffer fools at all well :). She has high standards which she will not compromise on.

She is one of the very few riding trainers that I trust, and I would leave a horse there on livery and not be worrying about how it was being treated.

Absolutely as far as horsewomen go I would leave all my horses there and be confident that they were in safe hands - I think you only have to look at the meticulous state of her muck heap to see what a tight ship she runs. I have sent several horses to Patsy in the past and have spent hours with her staff and I will say that her abhorrent attitude towards them is perhaps why she has such a high turnover of staff.

I am used to old fashioned, perfectionist horsey types as I used to train with the late Julie Basil BHSI, who made Patsy look soft! She had perfectly squared off muck heaps too.

Funnily enough, they both trained for the 'I' together at Wirral Riding Centre, back in its Stephen Clarke days.

Yep, back in the day we were told a tidy muck heap is symbolic of the standards set at the yard. Trying getting young folks to do it today is an uphill battle! Had an apprentice who would sweep and rake beautifully but I could never get her to make the slightest effort with the heap. It's even more important these days with the restrictions on muck disposal. I pay for my trailer emptying each month. If it's not kept well then it fills too quickly.
Am originally from Sheffield and recently travelled back to take my young horse to do a couple of baby dressage tests there. Had a good experience and the place was very tidy.
