A few simple tips to help you not get ripped off.

*bank transfers are a great method of payment. They are quick and most banks will take the instruction over the telephone, however once the money is gone, it's gone! There is no such thing as a 'chargeback' or an 'indemnity' on these types of transactions. These payments should only be used to pay people and companies that you know and trust.

*paypal payments are fantastic. They offer the buyer protection and CAN refund payments, however you only have 30 days to raise a dispute so don't fall for any of the sellers rubbish about 'not having had Internet access to get your address' or 'have been poorly so couldn't go to the post office' if in doubt raise that dispute because once your over 30 days then times up and your going to struggle.

*cheques work in a funny way. Once you have placed them in your bank, on the forth working day the funds will become available for you to spend BUT THE CHEQUE IS NOT CLEARED! Cheque clearing takes 5-7 working days (mon-fri excluding bank holidays) so I would strongly suggest you wait them full seven working days before you release any goods.

*beware of dodgy emails. Often you will receive emails from your bank telling you your account has been locked and requesting you click a link to verify your details. Banks would never do this. You can also get emails from things like eBay saying you have purchased a product asking you to click a link and fill in details. The bottom line is that if an email contains a link that takes you to fill in information then it's probably a phishing attempt (phishing for information) and you should delete off without hesitation.
