Hi all
Some of you may remember 3 months ago my boy merlin was really poorly after coming down with neurological problems which came out of the blue and got severe within days, my vets thought he had less than a week to live. I was in pieces.
But he did stabilise on high dose steroids and vitamin E and improve and on Friday he got the all clear! He’s been weaned off the steroids Over the last few weeks and has had none for 2 weeks
Today was my first ride a 3 mile hack In walk, the best day ever and lovely Merlin was his sensible brilliant self so so happy ?

That's amazing news! Did you ever narrow down the cause?
Thanks everyone I’m the happiest lady alive!
We don’t know what it was it’s a mystery! The vets diagnosed a brain lesion but he wasn’t scanned as unsafe to travel And he’s not insured anymore too
My farrier suggested a snake bite! Merlin did have 2 small puncture marks under his chin but no swelling
Vets say it’s like he had menengitis a brain swelling his original bloods when he started to get poorly were 100% normal
But his SAA inflammation tests which we did regularly were continually severe for ages but now normal as of 4 weeks ago. ?
I’m hopeful whatever it was won’t come back ! But if it does I’ve plenty more steroid tablets at the ready!
He’s completely sound the only lingering issue is that if you place his near hind in an unusual place he just leaves it there , weirdly that lower leg was freezing cold when he first got poorly which affected his left side more severely. Vet thinks he now has some nerve damage there but it doesn’t affect his soundness or safety to ride, I’m hopeful it will improve like all his other legs have ?
