Hi all.

Im planning on trying my boy with just front shoes on(backs off) when hes shod again next week. His feet look very good and seem strong so he should be okay. Do you think he'll cope? Anything i should think about?

Hes fed top spec lite balancer and molichaff..

Thanks :)

I think the best person to ask whether he will cope or not would be your farrier :) I have found (my) horses find the transition from shod to unshod far easier with their hind feet than their fronts.

^This, my boy coped without his backs for several years but I'm now having navicular style symptoms and farrier advised shoes back on the hinds.

There are a lot of good reasons for going barefoot but I like to listen to the experts, in this case your farrier. Good luck. :)

AngieandBen said exactly what I was going to. Dump the Mollichaff and get some Top Chop Lite or another unmollassed chaff instead.

Keep an eye out for any infections, whether thrush or white line disease and listen to your horse about what terrain he is comfortable going over. None of my horses have back shoes on and most are barefoot all round and cope really well.
