There is a TB gelding a few fields down from where my loan ponio is, that the owner will be selling in a few months, they know that I'm interested in him. I love this horse, he's so friendly, good to shoe (I've had to stay with him when the farrier has been to shoe him and he was an angel), loads in a horse box, jumps 3', can be caught, bomb proof in traffic and hacks out. I've been quoted a ballpark figure of £1500 for him. I've ridden him once and often see him as the hay for my ponio is stored in his field's barn. Unfortunately, he needs some work as he's currently being loaned out to a young lady who doesn't worm, feed or work him properly so he's lost condition!!!
The owner has told me that his teeth need doing and looking at his mouth, I can see that his right wolf tooth is "lumpy" and big for lack of a better word- to me it looks abcessed. It' doesn't look like any other's gelding's wolf tooth I have ever seen.
When he eats, feed goes everywhere and is a bit bridle shy (all of these things I'm 100% sure are caused by his wolf tooth).
I will get him vetted to make sure there is nothing serious wrong with him and can build up his condition again but have never dealt with equine dentists as my ned's teeth are fine! How much do equine dentists cost about (I know this will vary according to what's being done but just a ball park figure would be nice to let myself know what I'm getting into here)?
And, does anyone know of any good ones in Leicestershire?
