Dad has a friend who might be interested in him at the moment, lovely home, and need some opinions on how much I should be asking for him, a good home is priority rather than price though.
He's a 128cm (12.2hh) grey, Irish Sports Horse, and is 13 years old. He has done SJAI, Dressage Ireland, all Pony Club activities, and has been placed at novice level hunter trials. He hunted with the Galway Blazers as a youngster, and I hunted with him regularly last season, he will jump absolutely anything from gates to hedges. He is 100% to box, shoe, clip, and catch, and is excellent in traffic and with tractors and lorries.

Thank you

Thanks everyone

I have no idea what they're offering, Dad says I have to discuss the price with them, but I don't know what I should be asking for

He's priceless to me

He really is the best pony on the forum.

I really wish you could keep him, its so sad

Lets hope you find him a super special home. I would say around 4k because hes 100% in everyway.

around where i live he would go for 4k or more, good safe ponies sare worth their weight in gold

Agree with this. Though, like you say, the home is more important than the £.

To be completely honest I would say £2500 Maximum. This is purely based on his age and size. His size has to be a real issue, his jockey base is limited. He sounds like a marvellous pony and I am sure he has so much to give to a new owner, selling is probably the best option all round.

I think your best bet is to search on the 'horse for sale' sites for like types and see what they are going for. And then adjust to suit Castle.

Sorry you have to sell him, but he will be happier teaching a new child and having fun, than he would if you retired him as a companion to your new horse.

Sorry to hear that, no idea on actual price but agree with others on here in that he is Priceless

Thank you everyone, really appreciate your opinions and comments

I was thinking about €4000 including his jumping saddle (girth, stirrups and leathers), bridle, XC & SJ boots, and a stable and middleweight turnout rug, will most likely be talking to prospect buyers tomorrow

that sounds like a good deal including those with him. fingers crossed for tomorrow then honey. What do you know about them?
What news on the potential new horse?

Dad knows them very well, so a bonus as I will get updates every once in a while. They hunt a bit, also showjump at a local venue. Lovely home, he'll have company with other horses, no matter what I will worry though

Dad wants me to organise a vetting soon for the new horse, so on that side of things it's reasonably good.

Sorry to hear he'll be going,i have a friend that buys similar ponies to him for her 4 sons and i know she'd pay £4000 inc tack for him, this is the price i think he's worth but obviously he will be never be replaced in your heart.Hope he goes to a home that will love him like you have.

They sound nice and it sounds like Castle would have some fun with them. Are you feeling a bit better now at the thoughts of him going? I know you'll worry but if you do sell him then do what someone else mentioned on here and ask for first refusal to buy him back if they ever come to sell him?
Try and think of the positives in this, Castle will have a new home and continue to have fun in his life, and you will have a new horse to bond with and to do all the things you want to.
Just to try to make you feel a bit better, Pidge and Sunny always look either contented or have a spark in their eye because we do a variety of things with them. school, lunge, jump, loose school, hack, shows, farm rides etc etc (well hope to get back doing these with Pidge soon

) but there is a horse at our yard whose owner will only walk him - 10 mins in the week and max of an hour at the weekend. The horse is bored stiff, has absolutely no life in its eyes whatsoever and is the grumpiest horse out! Far better IMO for them to being doing a variety of things as it keeps them happy

Thank you Fruity

Pidge - I am feeling a bit better, as I know I will get updates about him, *if* he is sold to the people who are currently interested in him we will definitely know when he is up for sale again, but he wouldn't be the type of pony at 20 to not do any work, I'm sure he'll still want to be out hunting!

Pidge is an amazing horse, you're very lucky

Variety is the spice of life as they say

I actually don't think I could ever focus on just one discipline either!

Yes I have to agree with you on that one I can't quite see Castle retiring peacefully somehow

thanks, I feel lucky to have such a nice horse in Pidge, not only is he good looking IMO

but more importantly to me he has a nice personality and just loves fuss and attention.
