Well after alot of thought it looks like my loan horse is to be sold. We are just not in a position to keep him at the moment and owner doesn't want him back

I am considering buying him and loaning him out locally so that he goes to someone who deserves him and i can visit. He is a super special chap and I am so attached to him. I couldn't bear the thought of him being sold on to someone else and going to waste or being unhappy.

So can you give me an idea of how much to offer for him if i decide to buy....?

- 16hh Skewbald Hann x Cob (pic in sig below)
- 8 years old
- 100% to clip, box, shoe etc.
- excellent at dressage, SJs nicely and is very bold but never done XC
- a little spooky hacking and a bit sharper when alone but as long as you are confident he will do anything for you
- huge personality, loves attention and generally a lovely horse to be around.
- does have very tiny cataract in one eye but has had that since birth and has never bothered him and is never likely to
- has shiver in one hind leg but is so mild, the farrier barely notices

What do you think?

When you say about dressage and SJ, it would help to include information about what he's done. What kind of scores is he getting dressage and at what level? And SJ wise, how big is he competing/jumping at home?

Hard to say without that information but if he's just a nice allrounder then I would say around £2500 - more if he is capable of doing low level affiliated stuff. Not sure how much the cataract and the shiver would affect his worth though.

Well from a buyers point of view. Shivers in one leg, Cateract, a bit spooky when hacking alone so you need to be confident. IMO only I wouldn't offer more than £1500 but you see you know him.

When I first read and you said the one in siggi I thought Ohhh thats nice but after reading then price came tumbling down.

But that's to your advantage if you're thinking of buying him.

Ok so he's competed unaffiliated SJing 3ft (ish) doing double clears so is capable of affiliating easily. Dressage scores in the high 60's and high placings at novice level as judges love him and has fab paces.

Hacking really isn't a problem. A complete novice wouldn't get very far but as long as you know what your doing he's fine. No probs with traffic just the odd small spook here and there but he's not dangerous. Doesn't have a nasty bone in his body!

Well. Every horse may spook out hacking. I wouldn't mention it, unless the rider asks if he's bombproof, in which case you do. I have learnt never to offer more info than needed - if asked a direct question, answer truthfully, but don't volunteer more information, unless of course it's a huge problem that you feel you must mention. He's worth about 3k, as long as he passes a vetting, in the current market.
