I have a black 16.5" bates caprilli saddle. I bought it for my chunky boy as he fluctuates between a W and an XW depending on his weight and how much work he is doing etc.

Changing the gullet is brill but the saddle just doesnt fit in other places. It seems to bridge over his back and move around too much.

I really need to sell it as I paid a fair bit for it and cant have that kind of money tied up in something that I just cant use!!

It was ridden in for maybe a week so is in next to new condition with minimal girth markings and no rubbing in the stirrup leather areas.

So, how much do you all think it is worth and where is the best place to sell? Ebay???

Thank you.

Good luck. I've had no luck trying to sell any of my saddles myself, even though they are good brands; a Barnsby and an almost new Albion. I wanted a fair but realistic 2nd hand price, and had no interest through ebay. I then put them onto saddleseek.com and the only offer I had was from a scam buyer, so beware of the scammers out there.

saddles vary to wherever you are, saddlers can give a very inflated value to a saddle, but will not pay that for them !!!! if you asked them to buy it. but most of them fit saddles and are happy to hold them until they find a horse it will fit.
Alot depends on size, seat , leather or synthetic and condition.
ebay can be variable -one day a saddle will sell for nothng and then the next the same saddle-type i mean - the price will go through the roof.
Have you considered a swap maybe ?if not cut your losses, sell it for a bit less and get the one you need. have a look for an equestrian table top sale , or something similar. take a template of both your horses wither and back width -where the gullet would sit measurements. you might find a bargain there also .
I carry templates with me for my horses.
I bought my Amerigo dressage saddle at a table top sale last year for £500 , absolute bargain and it fits my CB stallion perfectly. If they don't fit because I haven't usually paid a fortune for them I can sell them on again, usually with a bit of profit.
If you sell it at an auction , or ebay you have charges to consider.
good luck

Thanks for all the advice.

I have a saddle that I bought really underpriced on ebay and it is officially my bargain of the centuary! The bates has sat in my spare room for about 12month now and lovely though it is I need the money!! It is full leather and is a beautiful saddle just sadly no use to me!

All the local tack top sales near me have been useless lately. More people trying to sell than buyers, Cumbria really is too sparcley (SP??) populated!!!

I guess I could give ebay a try on a free listing day. Do you think that £350-£400 would be a realistic reserve??

I will have a look at saddlesdirect, thanks Beans1. I cant afford to let it go for peanuts but cant afford to hang on to it either!!!

Argh!!!!
