Ok so have decided to give it a few months and see how we get on, but just in case we still haven't made any progress how much would you say for:

11yo purebred arab gelding 14.3hh reg with AHS
Lovely nature never nasty, never bucked or reared, great with farrier, vet, good to clip and bath, good with kids/dogs/cats
is a seasonal headshaker, controlled with net and piriton (or cheaper with cetrizone (sp) in)
Very nervous in traffic, takes a while to load, dislikes travelling in trailers, can be nappy when hacking alone better in company, his main prob is his confidence.
very honest with his jumping and tries his best for his rider.
Schools beautifully in winter when his allergies are less prominent, the headshaking means consistent contact is not always possible in summer.

i'm pleasantly surprised, i'd expected a reaction of he's not worth selling on!!!

Its about right to what i paid for him in 2007 as a 9yo.
I'm feeling guilty for having these thoughts about him as he is like a member of the family.
OH has told me to pull myself together and keep working with him!

If you are not 100% then sell him, someone else will be 100% with him, if he is just not for you then sell him and find something that is. Horses are far too expensive and time consuming not be happy with!

I do agree but the poor lad has had 6+ owners in his 11 years and i wanted to give him a home for life. I'm not quite ready to give up on him yet, he's such a lovely boy i'm hoping we can get past his confidence issues, i was always 110% until we had a bad hack a few weeks back, being chased by cows, i think its knocked us both back a bit. Thinking of taking him for a lesson in a borrowed lorry just getting on with it and not thinking about all the what if's all the time!

sure I understand what you are saying but just make sure you dont loose all of your confidence because it takes years to get back again! Well done for persisting though!

I'm sure when i was a teenager this would have all been added excitement but i just want a quiet hack on my own every now and then!! It feels better just talking about it and putting it all into perspective

Don't know if it would make any difference, but how about trying the full face mask (make sure you get one big enough, I didn't

). It might help if all his face is covered. You could then try him without a noseband (vague memories of it working with someone's horse).

How about sending him off for some schooling they may beable to help with his napping etc i know what you mean about headshaking my cob use to be really quiet to ride and now he is so strong better riders than myself won't ride him his nappyness is proberbly due to the discomfort of his headshaking

If I'm honest I think you are going to struggle to sell him, it costs just as much to keep a horse with issues as one without so I don't think you would be able to ask much for him. £500 perhaps? Particularly in the currnet market I know of some very nice easy 14.2s, ready to affiliate SJ that have had to be sold for about 1500.
