Neighbour has gone away and asked me to look after her horses for her. Two very easy horses, need to have rugs chaged am, turned out, mucked out, brought in pm, rugs changed, fed, hayed and watered. Checked in the evening. Pretty standard stuff. Neighbour said to just let her know how much she owes me when she gets back.
What is normal? I'm used to getting an hourly wage, writing down my hours then whoever I'm working for calculates how much they'll pay me. I let them decide the hourly rate as I don't mind getting minimum wage as it's just a bit of 'pocket money' for me. Lady emplys another girl to do some weeks, so should I just ask her to pay me the same? Don't want to look asif I'm over charging as they're lovely people.

i have not been charging to put in hay and feed (bit stupid i know) but my last yard where i was a livery was 50p to put feed over door and £1.00 to hang up a hay net. i know a freelance girl locally who charges £7.00 an hour.

My YO charges £5 a day for doing those jobs per horse.

i'd guess you are going to spend about 1 1/2 -2 hours a day there, so i'd say multiply that by your hourly charge.

so approx a tenner a day?

I think I'll just say that, I'm taking Y.Daughter with me, so taking me longer than it normally would, was planning on knocking half hour off the total time each day to make up for the fact I'm being slow with toddler in tow.

if you're going there 3 times a day (morning, evening, late) then i'd say £15 a day tbh. doesn't sound a rip-off to me at all!

I don't have to go three times a day, as they've got someone staying in the house, but I choose to because for the next few days I'm responsible for them and am paranoid lol.

When we go away, we pay a lady to do my one horse - each morning and evening she has to feed him, pick up mucks in small field and stable (he lives out with open access to stable), hang up haynets, soak haynets for next visit, fill up water and maybe change rugs depending on time of year. We pay her £7.50 per visit, so £15 for a full day. It's probably takes her 45min each visit, plus travel time.
