Okay, how much for :

9.1hh shetland (un registered) gelding. 10yrs. Goes on and off LR, has pony clubbed, hunted (by 5yr old) done showing, games etc etc. Lives in or out, hacks alone and in company, 100% with children, farm machinery etc. 100% bombproof. quiet yet fun.

and

how much would I be looking at paying for:

13hh new forest, to do low key showing, hacking, schooling etc etc. must be 100% in every way.

Due to problems with the ninja, and us not having facilities to deal with a real fattie, and my son wanting to 'move up' a gear (as he's now of the lR and wants to do more shows etc) we're thinking on changing ponies. We also need something i can exercise whilst son is at school.
 
It's probably not what you want to hear, although I'm sure you know it already, but to be honest Ginger's value will depend on whether he gets over his current nappy behaviour. It will make a huge difference. I don't think his chubby-ness will affect his value that much though, as he's never had lami (has he?) and he does put up with his grazing muzzle!

with the other pony, anything from £750 - £2000 would be my guess (from looking on horsemart). You might get lucky and get a good one fairly cheap, espesh if you'd consider something a little older or an unregistered/cross breed.
 
yes, I've been working on his nappiness this morning, and I think it's something that we can work through, and I won't be selling him till it's sorted . Also, because of his size, he cannot be turned out with the others, which 'may' be part of the problem. I'm hoping to put him on livery for a few weeks and see if that helps prior to advertising him. He can reach the size of a house, and has never had lami.
 
I think if you can get his nappiness sorted so he is safe for kiddies to ride he will be quite saleable. Did you make progress this morning then?
 
I got him doing as I asked. I didnt even attempt to take him out of the field as it just winds me up lol. But did a bit of leading round the field, not giving into his threats and a bucket of happy hoof at the end. We got from one side of the field to the other with no stops. seeing as yesterday the same walk took 2 hours i think we might have progress. Either that or he'd spotted the feed.
 
sounds like he's getting better then - even if he did just do it because he'd seen the feed bucket at least he did what was asked and then got a reward

Is the shetland broken to drive? If he is then this would make him more saleable. Might be worth giving the long reining a go and see how he takes to it (although you may well have tried this and found out).

The New Forest - well you should be able to pick up a fairly nice one for under a £1,000; certainly around where I used to live they weren't very expensive.

Lol Tia, lungeing him is bad enough. ATM I'm searching for somewhere *local* to have him broken to drive.

His problem is that he's alpha male in his field, and he thinks he's alpha male eveywhere. If he were to be in a field of bigger horses, that he could interact with, he'd soon get knocked back down a peg or two. Which IMO is all he needs.
