It is coming time for my insurance renewal for my yearling, and as he is only insured for the price of his stud fee at the moment I think it is time to increase that as I would also like to add loss of use too eventually.

However, I am new to owning a young horse, so would like some ideas on what he would be worth on the open market so I can judge what price to insure him for...

He is 15.1hh at the moment, to make 17hh. He is out of my Elementary dressage mare (unknown breeding, but IDxTB and decent comp record including competing at the Regionals this year) by Pro-Set.

At the 2008 BEF he achieved a 1st Premium as a potential eventer (highest marked yearling at the venue) and a high 2nd Premium as a potential dressage horse, achieving two 8s for his conformation.

Thank you in advance... this is not an advert because he is most definitely not for sale

He is such a poppet that I don't think I could stand to sell him

He takes everything in his stride, is incredibly trainable... what more could I have asked for in my first attempt at breeding

Thanks... I was looking at some of those too luckilotti and trying to go from those. I personally think £3,500 is too little for him if I was selling him on the open market with a 1st Premium in eventing (after all, he has probably cost more than that to get to this stage).

There's no money in 2 year olds, they arent sought after. Broken 3 year olds are much, much more valuable!

Oh I know that, and this is only for insurance use but I would like his 'actual' value to be as close as possible to what it would be on an open market. He would still be a yearling when it is renewed, and I would re-value him as a backed three year old too I think when LOU could be introduced.
