This is just out of interest, please dont worry about offending me cos you wont!! But just been pondering a how much for Godfrey horse. Quick lowdown!! He is a 16.1/2hh 6yr old ISH gelding. Good looking and gets comments wherever we go on how much presence he has.

Good points...

Good on the flat, smart paces, active hind leg and not difficult. Worst ever score is a 42, Best is a 30 (eventing). Regularly scores mid 60's with 8's in pure dressage. Scored 8's for his mediums in both Nov dressage tests done so far. Scores will improve as he becomes stronger and gains self carriage which is already developing.

100% to hack, a novice rider has taken him hacking alone and in company, fab in traffic, easy to do to clip/box/shoe/clip.

Easy to a fence, keeps a great rhythm, won at 95cm, jumping 1m, 1.05m courses in good style. Several double clears at 85cm trailblazers, will jump 1.20 at home. Not spooky at ditches/water etc etc, lovely ride XC, doesnt pull and tries hard. Won and placed at every unaff ODE done so far except 1 at Intro level. Came 10th at first PN.

Placed/won everytime out showing, including county level as a 3yr old. Not done much since then!!

Bad points;

BE record isnt great. Came 10th in first PN but had a few "blips" XC on record in last couple of runs mainly due to rider error

. Clear XC at every other run this year. Consistantly had poles SJing, but never more than 2! Riders record shows she's not great Sjing either as had poles on experienced event horse previously.

Needs confident rider Sjing as still not 100% confident in himself, but he does try.

Would easily go Novice/1* IMO with time, was going to go Nov this season but I want to work on Sjing first. Would suit confident JRN as he doesnt pull and is clever with his legs!! Very easy to do at home aswell.

Thoughts?!

i don't know i was thinking about Digbys value the other day and tbh although he has done much more than when i bought him his value probs would not have gone up until he is more proven.

I would say Godfrey would be about 7500-8000 but i reckon with another years experience probs more- please don't be offended if you thought higher i am no good at values!!

Lol! Everyone says they think of him being about 15.2
tongue.gif
He is quite leggy but has a really deep chest so it kind of cancels out his leggyness, so looks smaller in pics I think

Thanks on value

FranA, know exactly what you mean

It is so difficult. I paid a relatively small amount for G as he was only 3 and just been sat on a few times, so price was obviously not for a "competition" horse. Not offended at all at that valuation, thank you

This is of no help at all but someone I know of has their 16.2hh coloured, WB mare at £9.5k - its done less than Godfrey, its paces are nothing special (due, I suspect, to rider) and its two years older. It's been on the market since June this year. Maybe says it all? Make of that what you will.

It is difficult i mean i know i paid a bit extra as i bought Digby from a dealer and he had only been there a week but yet was at a price where he would be sold with a months bringing on probably!- if that makes sense.

however it is increibly difficult to find competition horses that have done pk even at an unaff level with potential to go BE without spending near on 8/9/10K for something about D and G's size and a young age.

if i had to value D myself atm i would say no less that 7.5/8k Purely as that is what it would cost me to fins something similar/with a bit of potential which i believe he has. But then in me saying that they maybe i should value G more as he hs been out and done more!

I have just confused myself LOL!!

Ah yes but Digby is still being sold on "potential" as he shows the ability and has no flaws
tongue.gif
G horse on the other hand is out doing things, but has a few mistakes on his record, which Digby may never have

Hmmmm

Based on looking at past results, now would not be the best time to ask a how much!

A good RC horse seems to be worth £4-5K having just seen a couple sell for around that, so I would say min of that, having got a young horse it has made be realise how large this area of competition is!!!! and how many people are looking for a good all-rounder.

To sell as a BE horse, I personally think you need to get some good results back on his record. Then you will be able to try and sell as proven at PN or N level.

If you sell at present it would appear he has a few issues (and if i had not read your posts and just saw the advert) would assume that you are selling as you cannot "deal" with them. Then people would look at him as a project and want to pay a project type of price!

Sorry if that sounds negative and that is just my opinion, but you have to think what you would think if you did not know the horse.

If you really want to sell, an option may be to ask a pro to do a few events. I know someone who did this last year, got some good results and sold the horse at PN level for around the £10k mark. It is not as expensive as you may think to have someone ride at an event for you.

Good luck in your next two events, I am sure it will all work out!

Oh yeah I completely agree, I would never sell a horse with a bad few runs "fresh" on their record. However I would hope to get more than 4-5k for a good RC horse which he would be I think
smile.gif
Its all theory at the mo anyway
smile.gif
But thank you. And this isnt meant as an advert

yes I am sure you would. I have just seen a couple sell for that recently.

It is a hard one to gauge. I am sure that you will still have him this time next year and doing novice anyway!!!!!

The fact that he is really safe and easy? to ride in all three phases adds some £££ to his price,( many people are DESPERATE for that, seriously!) plus the fact that he is coloured will also add value.

Have no idea about prices anymore. Cos I just cant understand todays pricing of things these days, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to prices!

Not very good at this - ive a friend with well bred well broken and jumping intro warm blood mare and she wants £6000 for her which I dont think is unreasonable as she could be anything - as with your boy - so with that in mind (as he is yours he is priceless of course!) Id reckon roughly £8.5k and £10,000. But also being coloured who are v popular perhaps more?

Ouji_Board, I wouldnt put a complete novice on him and expect him to be competitive, but he would do what he was asked without bucking/rearing etc etc. He sometimes gets tense but again very rarely bucks etc. I put a very novice rider on him the other night and gave her a lesson and he was fine, he would be good to teach someone as he wont do it unless it is asked for correctly!!

Thanks SSM

Cheers train_robber. A friend advertised her coloured for £6250 and sold him very quickly and had over 80 calls!! He was 5 and had no record at all. But I think that was in his favour....

I forgot to consider his colour would work in his favour...as well as the fact is just gorgeous!

Sounds like he has a super attitude too.

Thanks Governor, he is a strange little horse but pretty cool aswell. His colour is a plus point, but i did buy him because he was a nice horse, and not just cos he is coloured!!
