I meant to post this yesterday but lost my internet connection.

On Tuesday my poor little mare colicked. Scally was an absolute star and phoned the vet for me whilst we made our way to the yard. She was fantastic while waiting for the vet, keeping not only Boo calm but me too. When the vet injected her (the mare not Scally) with finadyne she threw herself to the floor and fitted. By this point I was pretty much useless but Scally again took control and was there for Boo.

I had the baby with me who was gettng restless, so her mum offered to watch her for us, and Scally explained everything that was happening (I was about as much use as a chocolate teapot!) sometimes two or three times over.

On Tuesday evening she was checking Boo hourly through the night for me, to save me dragging the baby out, and wednesday she made several checks during the night too.

I was absolutely useless and didn't cope well at all, so God knows what would have happened had she not been there. Since then she's putting up with me either following her around the yard or knocking on her door asking her sometimes the most ridiculous questions as well as favours, and she hasn't even hesitated, if she's been able to help she's done so without a second thought.

She's been absolutely amazing.

Sounds like a great friend to have

Thanks. Boo's absolutely fine now, clearing out well finally! She had to be tubed and Scally was up there holding her and helping the vet whilst I kind of quietly broke down outside. Likewise when she dropped and fitted I threw the leadope to Scally and she was alternating between soothing words to me and boo. I really was less than useless *rolls eyes*
Boo has to have some checks on her heart as the vet discovered a heart murmur but couldn't say whether it was due to the colic or the other way around, also the vet thinks that she may have a hole in her heart between the left and right side and it may be that that caused the fit, rather than the finadyine travelling into the right sde, around the body, it went straight through to the left side then up and into the brain without being diluted by blood first. I think that's right. She managed the buscapan IV, but it was administered very slowly, and she was taken into the school first incase she fitted again.

But Boo's fine, no more straw bed, also she can't have wood pellets either as she was trying to eat them, so is on a mixture of cardboard and woodchips until I can get to get some shavings on monday. I don't think she understood how we've been all but forefeeding her for weeks then had to starve her!
