.... to all who commented on my post about Ellie and all those who sent me PM's. Sorry I haven't replied, but I had loads and loads and I accept your support and well wishes and will look at all the feeding advice I have recieved.

Since going on the build up cubes a couple of weeks ago I think there has been a slight difference in Ellie's weight so I am going to stick with those for a couple more weeks to see how we go. Her coat is lovely and shiney, she really does gleam and although the heat is getting to her a little at the moment she is still trotting around after the boys when they have their funny five minutes!

Hopefully I can post pics of Ellie in a few weeks looking like a different girl! BTW, for those that asked, she is 16.3 so definately not a pony!

I didn't comment on the other thread, but have read most of the replies. It is difficult to keep the weight on some horses, especially older ones like ours. My mare is 34 and still in gentle work 2 or 3 times a week so that does help keep the muscle on her (although not as much as when she was younger). But we do have to watch her to make sure she isn't losing weight as her teeth are now very ropey. She has trouble eating her horsehage and longer grass these days so we now make sure she has a large bucket of Dengie hi fi Senior at her disposal all the time, even when she is out. She just has it dampened, but you could also mix with sugar beet. Also Tiff is on blue chip dynamic (and has been for a few years now). And she has been on super codlivine supple joint ever since she became a 'veteran' at 15 (she is now more than twice that age!!).
I would definitely recommend the hi fi Senior as Tiff started dropping weight just before we went into the winter and she came through it well, even replacing the weight she had lost.
Hope this helps.
