A JRT spoilt me and my girl's walk on Sat, any ideas ?

There are flats near where I live and the owners of a young JRT have taken to just letting it out ! presumable to exercise itself - eeeejits

Well what its doing is spoiling everyone elses flippin walks. I couldn't get rid of it, kept jumping on my spangle who incidentally sometimes isn't very good on the lead so I was expecting her to tell him off, but no she was very good which I was partly glad of but half of me wanted her to tell him to sod off !

How do you suggest I get rid of it if it happens again ? In the end I walked back past the flats hoping it would go home but it didn't, I then resorted to trying to scare it away, which I thought I'd succeeded until minutes later it came running behind us, luckily for me someone else was walking their dog and he followed them. Completely spoilt our walk and I didn't take her far enough because it was just running round like an idiot near the road.

Why do people have dogs and then be so irresponsible, it could have caused an accident.

I was thinking of taking a spray bottle of water out next time or I remember someone mentioned about a cheaper option of those spray air cans a while back, but I don't want to effect my dog just get rid of that one

Any ideas ? greatly appreciated, I can't go to the flats and find the owner because there are some dodgy residents and don't want to get involved in case of reprocussions (sp)

Aparently it was common for dogs in towns to be allowed to run around in the evenings... I had no idea!

Sounds like its a friendly thing and just wants some attention. Stick a lead on it, take it with you and when you get back tell the dog warden that you have found a stray. That way its not so likely to ruin your dogs walk and the little mite will not get run over.

Breaks my heart when people do this sort of thing. I am a big fan of JRT but they have become so interbred by people trying to make a swift buck that finding a really good one is near on impossible (unless you know the right people ;) ). Took 18 months to find a really good dog to put our bitch to because all the good ones were related already!
 
I'd also be more worried about the poor little bugger being squashed or stolen or something horrible, than him following me on a walk - although it wouldn't have a face left if it pestered Millie lol.

I was at the park with a friend once and a Staffie male was tearing around by it's self, we bribed it over with a bit of chocolate and I took it home with me (I was about 10), Dad opened the door and shouted to my mum "look what you're daughter's brought home this time!" They took him to the vet and they knew who he belonged to. Turns out he lived just down the road from us - we know this because a few weeks later he jumped out the garden to follow us with one of our dogs.

We also ended up with an old Bull Terrier on the footpath in font of our house so again Dad took it to the vets but they didn't know who he belonged to so they kenneled him until the dog warden could take him. A woman came by later in the evening asking if we'd seen a white Bull Terrier, Dad told her he was kenneled at the vets because we didn't want him getting run over and she went berserk at him "what did you ******* do that for? Now I've got to ******* pay to get the ******* thing back"
 
Take a spare lead and collar - and take it with you next time.

Then phone the dog warden to come and collect it.

Bless, sounds like a friendly little thing just wanting to be with other people and dogs.
 
In agreement here, take it with you. Its not the dogs fault theres no point in reprimanding it for trying to follow you, poor little thing. Call the dog warden.
 
I may not have got over to you what I'm like as a person, its not my nature to be horrible to an animal, it was very cute, but was trying to mount my dog repeatedly, I couldn't keep walking because it kept hanging off the back of her, then running round the front and jumping and snapping at her, it was playing but very annoying.

It had a collar on, I tried to catch it using my dogs treats but it was so quick it knew what I was trying to do and wouldnt let me hold his collar, I wanted to see if he had a phone number on him anywhere but as I couldn't grab him I couldn't see.

I would have took it with me if I could get the lead on it, I was very careful not to cross the road when something was coming, thats why I went back past the flats in the hope it would go home.

If its out again I will call the warden, I agree with you all its not the dogs fault, its very tempting to take it home but its not an option. Its a lovely dog, shame about its owners, I think people think that the'll get a small dog so they don't have to walk it, I've seen to old men out with it having a fag outside the flats, with no control over it previous to this weekends incidents, if I see them again, I'll say he nearly caused an accident etc.....
 
Steal it! I always fancied a mini JRT but the OH only wants a biggish dog that can just manage to fit on his knee-weirdo!

I'd nick it! (Not really, or actually, maybe, dunno. Depends how cute it is!)
