Anyone care to make one or add too the list...

Having saddle issues yet again - had current saddle for just under 2 years, checked every 2-3 months and now left white scar imprints where stirrup bars were on my beloved horse after last fitting. Wonderful. I wont be using that make again so need to know some adjustable saddles - thanks!

Looked at bates, k&m so far.

The Prestige and Whittaker saddles can be adjusted - not with a gullet system but by heating the tree (needs to be done by a saddler).

Ideals can usually be adjusted by one width fitting but again needs a saddler.

Do you really need an adjustable saddle, or a just a well fitting one? Do you adjust it often? I'm not having a pop, genuinely curious. Is it for a young horse?

Wouldnt have a treeless, apart from the fact ive never found one remotely good looking theyre just not suited to what i want to do.

Yes i 100% need an adjustable - typical new forest pony! I also like the fact that if/when i do get something else the likelihood of the saddle fitting something else is a lot more than a none adjustable.

What do you want to do? I think Tekna are adjustable too

Almost all treed saddles can be adjusted once or twice with the correct machine.

The adjustable gullet saddles can have the width changed but no guarantee on fit as the rest of the tree, and panels are the same (as your no doubt know).

Thorowgood, Kent and Masters and Fairfax are the same company and saddle in different materials and quality. They're well made and designed and a good place to start looking.

Wintec and Bates are again the same but different materials. Bear in mind when looking at these that they changed their design about 2yrs ago and the original and the new styles are VERY different in fit. The old model is a rubbish fit on pretty much everything. The new model is a decent saddle.

Shires and Collgeite and GFS do a saddle very similar to the old wintec model. The first two are low quality, as is the Norton. GFS do a couple of types and worth looking at.

Barnsby, Pessoa, Keiffer and many other brands have all dabbled in adjustable gullet trees.

In fact pretty much all saddle makers make or have made adjustable saddles. Many are designed for TB eventer types so will be no use for a Newfie.

I have a Kent and Masters GP saddle - Love it. If your after quality, comfort, adjustability and big comfy panels for the horse its the best and at a good price too!

I've recently found a Jeffries Raptor which fitted our project pony a treat, unfortunately the owner didn't want to buy new otherwise I'd have gone for it like a shot. Its a new GP. Mini's little horse now has a Fairfax, lovely saddle so far.

Thanks kallibear - i did go for the saddle company for the reason it was adjustable everywhere and would be ideal for my ever changing native but from day one its never really looked right and now the stirrup bars have scarred him i wong be using it again.

The bates i have been looking at are the older ones on ebay/preloved but now youve said that i will try steer clear unless saddle fitter can find one to fit - she used to work for bates so has good knowledge of them.

My native unfortunately will break at some point soon due to on going issues but is still 100% for now so wanted something thay will last him and can then use on other horse who is a similar shape.

Ive had nothing but saddle troubles with every horse ive owned!

Does anyone have a gfs monarch - they look nice and a good price?

If you're looking for cheap but quality then start with the throwogood saddles (cob and standard) and the new model wintec 500. They all fit slightly differently so one is likely to suit, they're good quality, affordable even new and have a high resale value.

The GFS monarch saddle is a decent saddle but hard to find second hand and expensive new and will literally half in price if you need to sell on. And no guarantee it'll suit even if the width is adjustable.

I've had a couple of Saddle Company saddles and not been impressed with the fit nor quality for the price.

OP I can highly recommend having a look at the Lavinia Mitchell saddles and method of fitting.

I was never happy with the fit of my mare's saddle, despite it being checked regularly by 2 well known and recommended local saddlers. After doing some research online, I came across a saddler called Julie Robertson (actually, I think she was recommened on here!) who was trained by Lavinia. She had a completely different way of fitting saddles and my mare is now very happy.

Definitely worth having a look as there is plenty of scope for adjustments with horses who change shape often.

Webble - i like fact they look like saddles. A few people i know have treeless and they just look absolutely hideous if im honest!

Kallibear - i dont have a particular budget or any type i want as such, im just so annoyed at my SC saddle for marking my horse i want anything! Will enquire about thorowgood as like the look of the t8.

My friend has a monarch and it looks lovely but do think theyre suited to the more eventer type rather than the native.

I love my K&M :) it's the Cob GP and is fantastically comfy - fitted originally to my 15.1 TBX with a Wide gullet, soon to be re-fitted to my 16.1 ISH with a Med/Wide gullet.

Kent & Masters GP, very very comfy. I just have two gullets that I change easily according to the time of year, chubby or not so chubby. Leather is "ok" mine is brown but looks very nearly black. Love the adjustable girthing system too, with the 4th strap for proper cylinder shaped horses and the Velcro blocks that you can move around for your leg. I tried twenty saddles on my connie x and this one was the best for me and him. Looking to buy a dressage one soon!!!
