I had the vet out to Hovis today to do the second part of his anti-mite injections and whilst he was there i asked him to do a quick once over of the big man to give me his view.
Now in fairness the vet was late so i had spent 30 mins giving Hov a fairly heavy duty groom so he was very shiny, neat and tidy (unusual for Hovis who usually looks a total tramp).
The vet had a trainee with him and he actually said Hovis is the best example of a heavier horse out of all he sees. He's in great condition, his weight is perfect (if slightly on the lean side - i covered Hovis' ears at that point!) and that the trainee vet should use him as a benchmark in her mind against other heavier horses. I was well chuffed! Only last week i was asked to take my german shepherd to the vets obesity clinic for dogs (my small animal vets) to be used as an example of what a perfect weight dog should look like.
So i am a cr*p rider with no talent at all but i seem to be able to keep animals at the right weight!!
