My boys are now back in medium weights already!!
It's so cold and wet today and were shivering in their rain sheets so i felt very guilty and gave in :o

Ok so i do own a pair of very poofy TB's ....:D

Anyone else digging out the winter woolies already????

Makes it feel like we've not had a summer, mine only moved into their rain/flysheets at the beginning of July as it was too chilly! :)

It is still 19-22 degrees so still naked. even at night it is still 12 or so :D

Although I may have to start thinking of rugging at night as his coat has started to thicken up

Left my boy out naked today in pouring down rain. Did feel a bit guilty as on starvation paddock but did give him flap of hay morning and again this evening. Not going to rug this winter unless asolutly essential. Had the coat of a yak last year despite being rugged. Bet I weakan!

If your horses are cold, then No, it isn't too early :D

It would be a bit premature here, it is 30C outside, I have the a/c on trying to cool down a bit  it is still only dropping to 18-20C at night at the moment.

I may consider digging out the rugs when it hits 0C, I may even use them when it drops another 5C after that. Usually the horses, even the arabs and the tb's, don't need them until then. Tough old beggars my lot ;)

I don't think there should be hard and fast rules, about dates or thermometer watching, if a horse is cold and will benefit from a blanket then it is so simple to do something about it that it is criminal not to, and blow what anyone else thinks :D Your horses are your business ;)

all dependant on the individual horse as to whether it's too early or not!! for my three (totally different breeds) I've only put a rain sheet on tonight on one of them and that's only to keep his coat nice until his last show of the year on 10th september the other two are still naked, though am considering starting to rug one of them soon, even so that will only be in a sheet/40g rug.
