Hello all

If you were rehoming an 8 year old lurcher, how would you introduce him into you way of life? What I am basically asking is if you were rehoming an older dog who was about to come and live with you, would you give him a few days to settle down and bond with you before you took him to meet some doggy friends that he is going to be able to play with. Just to socialise, obviously not go off the lead or anything, just meet and greet (there are no other animals in my house).

Also if he was not arriving until 10 in the night after a 5 hour journey, would you just give him some chicken and rice and settle him down for the night? Or a short walk around the area and spend a few hours with him and then settle him down?

I appreciate that this all sounds more than a little vague but I really do not want to announce his arrival properly or get too excited until his paws are very firmly under the table. (I am a bit superstitious) I am just concerned as to what to do when he first arrives.

I lurk here quite a bit so know that people have had experience of rehoming and wonder if you would give your opinions please.

I would give him a few days to finds his feet and settle in before you start introducing to lots of different people, places and other dogs.
If he is travelling all that time he will probably be quite tired anyway. A quick snack, a brief stroll to stretch his legs and ablute and bed imo. Good luck and let us see some pics when he arrives!!

That is what I first thought, suppose I just wanted some reassurance... so thank you!!

As soon as he is here I will introduce him properly and post loads of pictures.

Thank you for your input ... I did contemplate pming Cayla but thought it was a bit cheeky!

I do think that Gazey will also approve of the hound!

Hey Pm away.....no one else thinks it cheeky

I would walk him to tire him and let him stretch his legs after such a journey, I personally would not feed that time of night, but feed him the next day as u would to start your new feeding routine, and spend a few days bonding before u meet his new friends

It will be my first skinny dog .... had a fluffy GSD before that!

I will be doing a bad impression of David Bailey for the first few weeks! Hope he is not camera shy!
