Hi all, I'm a newbie....wee question for ya all about livery. I have always had horses and kept them at home - we have 13acres, very large outdoor school and 6stables. ATM I don't have any horses coz Im moving over to England for 9 months in September. When I get back I will be getting one to start back again....problem is where do I keep it?

I will more than likely be moving into the city for work (22miles away) - I don't like the idea of paying livery etc when I have some a fabulous set up at home but I won't have anyone to keep an eye on the horses/feed them if I can't make it etc......Because I've never been on livery I wondered if you lovely ones could tell me what its like and how much it costs etc.....if you were in my situation would you just leave them at home and travel? Or livery?

Thanks all, Ash xxx

Hi welcome,

I keep my two on livery it cost £240 a month DIY. If i had the chance I'd keep mine at home with a set up like yours. Is there anyway you could rent out a stable to someone you prehaps know and ocme to some arrangement where you do their's and they do your's when you can't make it. I have that agreement with one of the other liveries on the yard. It works because we trust each other.
Good luck - your set up at home sound heavenly

can I move in?!?! hahaha sounds like you have a fab set up I pay £100 a month DIY plus food bedding ect for my horse but I do not live near a city. Where are you moving to and from??

It is so fab - im luckiest gal ever to have it! Im moving to Oxford to do a postgrad course. Live in Downpatrick NI - when I get back I will probably be moving to Belfast. Can't wait to get another horse- having serious withdrawl symptoms lol.

I think that sounds like a good idea - I can be on the look out at the mo...it would also keep everything in use while im away (hate looking at an empty yard, so sad!) xx

Hi everyone,

Renting your stable out is a good idea, i am thinking of doing this with one of mine as i have the one stabled but the other is still with her mother miles away as she is only a foal and hasn't been weaned yet but i am having to pay deposit down on the stable or would not have anywhere to keep her when i finally have her. I pay £17.50 a week for stable and buy the hay and shaving from the yard to, its not too badly priced.

If I had your set up at home I would probably keep my horse at home and give a trustworthy, reliable person free stable and grazing for helping you out
