Following on from a thread a while back, if I were to get Lenny a duvet as opposed to a stable rug this winter, would I go for a single or double?

An unbelievably numpty question I know, but I'm always up for saving a few quid if I can and thought it was a great idea!

Cheese toasties for anyone who can humour me enough to answer :p

Now, am I correct in assuming Lenny is an equine and not your OH?

Equine. Ok. Is this a shetland or a shire? :)

(I have used duvets before, but only on really poorly horses as an under rug)

Depending on size of horse or pony double for horse or single for pony put over fold back to size wanted then use a surcingle to keep in place

I used a single on a 13.3 pony. I used to put it up to his ears and cross it over the front of his chest. Once his stable rug was on top and the cross surcingles were done up it never moved.

I would say double for a horse. I sew a strap and roko buckle on so it is done up at the neck and they seem to stay put ok. (With duvet right up neck)

Tesco value duvets are about a tenner.

buy him a double, put it on up to his ears then cross the front under his wel fitted stable rug. toasty warm. personally mine have dual purpose FAL or rambo so thus eliminating all the rug changes! and all toasty warm!

I don't want to be awkward but if you can find one try and get a what used to be called a Queen Duvet which is in between a single and double!!

I know duvets are cheap these days but so are rugs...Not sure why your going for the hassle of a duvet (hassle being cleaning and security whilst wearing, ease of drying etc) when you can buy cheap rugs from saddlerys and even sites like Ebay?

These days you can get a rug for every degree of temperature, in various thickness's, can be easily cleaned and stay secure that would do a much better job than putting a rug and duvet on.

I appreciate that duvets are good in the depths of winter when we get one or two nights of really cold weather but if your using one now what will you be using in December?!!?

I'm not judging as my horse is in at nights and tonight it's going down to 3 degs so he has a light/med on so I'm an avid rugger myself. But if i wanted something warmer i would buy a horse rug.
