here's some advice for you all...

DON'T EVER do the following all together:

- get soaking wet whilst washing/hosing your horse

- stand in deep puddles until your ugg boots are saturated, and your feet are soaking wet

- then (with wet hands) grab the loose end of the (mains fed) electric fencing

i did this today, and got a shock like i've never felt in my life. in fact, it wasn't a shock, it was full on electrocution that threw me back about ten foot.

i'm still in agony and can't move my left leg. i think the 'shock' was able to travel right through me as i was in water... it made such a bang.

i freaked, cried, and howled. then i thought the baby (i'm 37weeks pregnant) would be dead/hurt. and freaked some more.

however, she's kicking away again normally, and i'm laid up on the sofa feeling sorry for myself.

how on earth can an elecrtic fence give such a kick?

p.s. i regularly get shocked from it, it normally just makes me squeal a little bit, it's never more than a slight shock... until today...

it would never have dawned on me for a second that the fence could shock me like that. i guess we usually have rubber soled shoes on when we touch it? not water drenched ones... whilst stood in 2inches of water.
i wonder if it'd be bad if we touched it with bare feet?

I am really surprise at this having never heard it before.

horses have metal shoes on and they don't get shocked any worse than us normally. and you being wet just meant it would have passed through you quicker to earth than normal.

I'd be getting my energizer checked/serviced to make sure it doesn't have a fault.

Have you been to see a doctor? seriously? For both the baby AND you!

well, i made the mistake of googling 'electric shocks during pregnancy'... which gave some scary results... so i rang midwife back to tell her, and she told me to ring hospital... i'm now in the queue for the 'antenatal emergency' delivery unit... and have been for quite a while... tra la la. they don't even play music on this line... i do, however, keep getting told that my call is important to them, and will be answered as soon as possible...

so, fingers crossed there'll be a doc on the other end who'll know what to do. x

Just a word of warning... my friend got a big shock of the electric fencing whilst pregnant, went to get checked out and then the hospital reported her to social services and her unborn child was put on the 'at risk register'

Yet another good reason why Social Services has a bad name. Plain stupid!
